stouffville wins fifth straight with 51 victory haliburton latest clipper victim stouffville the controversial boys from the north country were in town tuesday night tney put on a good show but failed to leave stouffville with a victory as a matter of fact haliburtons loss gave the clippers their fifth straight win of the campaign the homesters have yet to taste defeat in regular league play with three goals in the space of eightysix seconds in the first period it looked as though stouffville was going to send the huskies back up north hanging their heads in shame however it didnt work out quite that way the visitors settled themselves down in the middle frame notched their only goal and kept the clippers scoreless they also learned how to hit a man something they did very little of in the first period the hitting got harder players flew further and the piay got sloppier as the contest aged a spokesman for the huskies was asked if the tra velling is slowing down his players he replied that al though thi3 club will go further than some american astronauts this season the boys like it and it doesnt seem to bother them they may not be tired but some thing can be done with their shooting more than three- quarters of the shots fired at the stouffville net missed their mark some by an atrocious distance dizzy first period picked up a loose puck deep in the game was less than minute old and stouffville had two men in the penalty box tom benson came off at the 38 second mark for holding and pete event followed twelve seconds later on a charging in fraction the visitors buzzed around chuck doyle but poor shooting lost them the chance of an early lead pete reesor hit paydirt for 5touffvllle at the 606 mark of the initial frame with bill brown and ken aida copying him in swift order browns goal rang off the goalpost and with lady luck fell behind goalie dave austen austen looked shaky in the first frame but calmed down as the game progressed he came up with some key saves in the second and third periods in the second period it was every man for himself as both clubs came out breathing fire their mood showed in the pen alty box with a total of twenty- eight minutes being assessed ken aida picked dan roberts as an individual opponent mid way through the frame and both received seven minutes each two for cross checking and five for fighting the fight never really did get underway aj referee jack shropshire and linesman barry mclean acted as peace makers ron stackhouse ruined doyles shutout bid at 613 of the middle period hart goes the distance in the final period stouff ville found the mark for their final two goals bob armstrong scored first boosting stouff- villes lead to three goals his tally came at the 404 mark ten minutes later glen hart his own territory and whizzed the complete length of the ice to end the scoring for the night hart was followed by a hali burton player who stuck like glue but couldnt take the puck away from the speeding young ster chuck doyle although not called upon to any great ex tent came up with the big stops when they were necessary on two occasions he robbed hali burton marksmen of sure goals ken aida meanwhile was robbed on a breakaway at the other end of the rink well handled referee jack shropshire with the game under control at all times wasnt taking any thing from anyone he assessed haliburton with a twominute bench penalty when a player uttered a remark that caught his ear garry gartshore capt of the team was fingered as the culprit and sat out the sent ence in the third period shrop shire overheard a comment by george sheppard and nailed the player with a tenminute misconduct tabulating the entire evening the referee whistled out twenty- two penalties for a grand total of 58 minutes stouffvilles unheaten streak will be challenged this friday night tomorrow when they travel to bobcaygeon it will be he second meeting between these two clubs since the cam paign opened in the first match stouffville scraped out a 54 victory the next home game for the clippers is slated for tuesday night at the arena whpn they lock horns with newmarket game time is 845 sports scbipts standard equipment during tuesdays game in addition to skates pads and sticks should have been umbrellas tne game was held indoors believe it or not but the arena roof under a tor rential offseason rain storm leaked like a sieve puddles for med on the ice in assorted places and each time one does it forms a lump or a break in the smooth surface perhaps this could be part of the reason for the mainly sloppy game even some fans were required to take shelter or shift down a few- feet the trip from hali burton to stouffville took a little more than two and a half hours to complete a number of visiting fans also made the trip a good sign of moral support on their home ice this is the first season in nearly 3 years that haliburton had iced a team up to this year they were with out an arena pete ree sor let go with one of his harder checks of the season tuesday near the end of the game when he dropped a bomb on mike easton easton hit the boards with such a force that it knock ed him senseless for almost a minute upon recovering he wobbled to the players bench like he had returned from a saturday night binge the home town crowd at the arena was to say the least terrible ken aida still leading
