created by the sudden tfeath of elmer daniels who held the position of secretarytreasurer for over five years mr baker was born on a farm in the stouffville area he attended grade and continu ation school at stouffville and graduated from markham hiph school later he completed a business course at dominion business college and also at tended the university of tor onto entering the banking field he served in various positions at a number of branches and at head office in toronto of the canadian bank of commerce after world war ii service mr baker returned to the bank he continued in a number of posts one of those being man ager at the west hill branch of the bank in scarborough then he accepted the position of manager and secretary- treasurer of the bethesda and stouffville telephone com pany he continued with this firm for 3i years when it was taken over by the bell tele phone company of canada mr baker served for five years as a section manager for the bell telephone company property and cost accounting office at the end of october he left the bell company and on novem ber 4th took over the vacant post of secretarytreasurer of stouffville public utilities commission at annual remem brance day service the local presbyterian minister drew this statement from a number of student essays written on the subject what remembrance day means to me rev cromey spoke of his experience as a member of a vmca group stationed in france in 1940 as support for the british expeditionary force he said their greatest danger and hardship was the result of fifth columnists and not preston died at south waterloo memorial hos pital gait on saturday nov 8 1965 he is survived by his wife the former olive troxcl sons dr john t erb of toronto dr gordon erb of preston and daughters margaret mrs g m hopwoodi of barrie and olive mrs charles tipp of port credit he was in his soth year funeral services were held on wednesday at the banfield memorial united missionary church in toronto with inter ment in the hagey cemetery dr erb was a former patholo gist for the hospital for sick children he was with the hos pital for 28 years and served as the attorney generals depart ment consulting pathologist for 11 years and for 8 years was assistant professor of pathology at the university of toronto he was a former president of the evangelical medical mission ary society dr erb retired to preston 5 years ago in his ear lier years he was well known around stouffville having been a guest minister at the united missionary church mr allan sangster obrien avenue was featured on the cbc program on the scene on tuesday evening of last week on channel 6 a strike once the course of last resort now seems the path ot least resistance stouffville one of the highlights of the annual re membrance day tea and bazaar held last saturday in the legion hall was the antique displav which drew a large crowd bringing back memories to some were the spinning wheel and wicker cradle 100 years od owned by mrs h murphy a wool winder also 100 years old belonging to mr l weldon drew many comments a very rare item indeed was the 200 year old sewing machine owned by mr kill mallow which caused a great deal of interest owing jo the fact that it is still in working order a beautiful tea chest with pearl inlay over 100 years old and a georgian foot stool 130 years old done in beaded em broidery were oniy 2 of the many lovely antiques put in the display through the courtesy of mrs b jackson of the stouffville antique house a parlour table over 100 years old and a tinv china head doll which was 130 years old show ed plainly the fine craftmanship of that time and the care re ceived by mrs b clarkson the brass lantern clock made in 1646 and a sheraton inlaid table of 1700 owned by mrs art dixon also displayed the rare given as they have been handed down to the present fam ily one of the telephones dis played by mr del jennings was built before 1891 and proves that the telephone has come a long way in operation and de sign a treasured possession be longing to mrs r floury was the china teapot with stand which is 125 yrs old the childrens furniture was made to last in those days as was shown in the so yr old high chair 75 yr old rocking horse and the 63 yr old childs wicker rocking chair the styles in he antique clothing on display caused many remarks on the needle work and design the lace baby dress over 100 yrs old was an eye catcher as were the wed ding dresses one 70 yrs old and one 45 years the town of stouffville of 1888 was a high point of inter est with many pecpie looking at the old pictures and trying to place the present day sights there were many antiques in this show far too many to men tion all of them here each and every item so kindly loaned pretty wedding of local interest was conducted in the stouffville united church on saturday afternoon when carol ann cossey daughter of mr and mrs herb cossey ninth line south was married to mr donald white of white- vale rev and mrs don pugh donnie and barbara of platts- ville were visitors with his parents mr and mrs fred pugh on saturday the pughs marked their 46th wedding anniversary on friday another local couple mr and mrs- lloyd moyer also celebrated their 46th anniversary the same day mr and mrs orville hostett- ler burkholder st attended a farewell dinner on wednesday evening at mrs
