while landing facilities are available at but- tonville a field is also being provided right on the match site and space for the planes to be parked in the case of those landing at buttonville a shuttle taxi service will be set up to get the arrivals to and from the match most of those farmers oper ating their own planes come from the united states but there are now a number of far mers in groves apple butter festival had any idea of the preparation that goes into thb annual two day event they would consider it fair to price a pint of apple butter about the same a a pint of uranium at this stage a few days be fore thanksgiving nearly 200 bushels of apples have been picked for apple baiter and cider tnis week there will be 2 sehnitzing bees in cedarena one is thursday evening and all the old fashioned apple peel ers in the village will be pres sed into service to peel 125 bu of apples some of these peelers are over a hundred years old and still provide the bi- way to peel an apple then doens of women will core and quarter the fruit and the patient mrong men of cedar grove will carl them all to woodland park in large pails where thev remain in the cooler until boiwg lime two boiling bees will precede the festival to insure enough apple butter for sale before the big copper pots come off the tri pods in mid afternoon on satur day the booth being stocked with manpower pancake flour hot dogs and chips rider and coffee to feed the hungry visi tors and when company comes to cedar grove on saturday all will be in order with five pols of butter bubbling over hardwood fires displays set up in the beautiful woodland park set ting and cedar grove will be on hand to the man to welcome all visitors to this years apple butter festival saturday oct 9th and monday oct 11th 2i miles cast of hwy 4s on steeles ave and the price of apple butter remains the same markham fair is gloriously over for another year and satur day must surely have set a new record it certainly did at the cedar grove booth the smell of that delicious barbecued chicken drifted over the fair grounds and brought hungry people to the booth as fast as the chicken came off the coals the fair nev er looked better and the school display this year was outstand ing cedar grove won its share of the prizes with the children taking most of the honours sharon lapp had seven entries with five prizes and two firsts and the cake plate for the most number of points in the under is class ricky lapp won a first for his chocolate- cake and a first and fourth for knots and wood respectively arty milroy and bobby dean each won a first and a fourth for some very fine looking rabbits and the murison children did well with apples david whittamore got a first for his vegetable collection and a fourth for leaves while jeannie hamill took the second prize for vegetables raymond reesor was a little richer for catching a greased pig and ma rion reesor won four prizes out of five entries in the under 18 class that may or may not be all the winners the children are spread out all over the place this year and unless proud mothers phoned in the good news it was pretty hard to tell who won what joyce lapp and merna burk- holder upheld their usual repu tations at the fair out of 13 entries joyce had 3 firsts five seconds and 3 fourths and mer na entered 13 got 11 prizes with 6 firsts lost and found at the fair david ritchie lost his new jack et a navy blue scotch guard with his hockey and baseball crest sewn on if found please contact his hopeful mother 2f15so a rectangular alumi num tray with a
