15 stouffville r r 2 may 17 1965 editor the tribune dear sir there hai been quite a bit of controversy lately in the tri bune with regard to the condi tion of the roads in the stouft- villebioomington and mussel- mans lake area the same od problem is back with us once again gravel trucks what is a gravel truck its a mechanical box weighing up to 23 tons and capable of speeds up to 100 miles per hour its a real hazard on the road and es pecially so when the roads are not up to par i am sure that there are many people living in the twp who are not aware of the existence of this problem if you drive a- long the bloomington sideroad or the 9th cone on any week day you will see for yourself if you see a cloud of dust move over for one of the gravel gi ants is on its way do you think its fair for the residents of these areas to en dure this abuse any longer i know for a fact that there are many respectable people living in this district who have inves ted their entire life savings in a house on the edge of this dust bowl i am not condemning the dri ver of this menace because it is a source of income for him and his family i think how ever that there is a solution to this problem 1 i would zone truck traffic entirely to the bloomington road 2 i would get the township council to pass a bylaw- and restrict all outside dump trucks from coming into the township if they are to op erate within the municipality they would be required to ob tain a special permit in order to use our roads 3t think that the council and the gravel pit operators should get togeth er and discuss this thing thor oughly and come up with a so lution i know that a good deal of the taxpayers money is being wasted every year because of gravel truck operations i think its about time that the council pulled up its socks and progres sed past the horse and buggy stage we the people of whit church twp put these men on council and its about time we received some satisfaction for the money spent in taxes for road maintenance in the past few weeks 7 have been in touch with the police dept the township clerk and one council member in an ef fort to check the many serious accidents that have occurred in our area i understand that they have no solution i know well that thus problem must be solv ed by the general public how- can this be done 1 approach the dept of transport and the dept of hwys and if they cant come up with an answer go to the federal government for advice sincerely patrick cashman gormley a speedy recovery is wished for mrs n a johnston who is in york central hospital rich mond hill
