to read do you read and derive no blessing from it if so let me ask another ques tion how ao you read the bible if we as christians read the bible only to find guidance or to learn more about god or to prove a private viewpoint we have chosen lesser goals and will not find the real blessing we seek our highest goal or purpose should be to meet god himself through jesus christ only as we experience this personal en counter with the living word can the holy spirit use the truths of the bible to effectively speak to our needs once we have found the sweetness of his personal rela tionship with the lord jesus in the pages of the bible we will understand the infinite truth of ii timothy 29 where it says the word of god is not bound may we say with jim elliot a missionary martyred by the auca indians who knew the reality of this fellowship the word of god is not bound it is free to say what it will to the individual and no one can out line it into dispensations which cannot be broken dont get it down cold but let it live fresh warm and vibrant this intimate fellowship with the living word brings a spon taneous radiant life with the giving of oneself to this new relationship you will receive good measure pressed down shaken together nd running over luke 638 like the harlem globe trotters meeting stouffville district high school junior girls so did the xhl oldtimers clash in a onesided battle with the markham sr allstars fri day night at the markham arena the exhibition hockey game put on in aid of minor hockev in markham was termed an astounding success 1500 people jammed into the arena to watch the hockey greats of yester years drub hie befuddled all- stars 116 dressed in green red white and yellow striped sweaters the nhl stars and their opponents clad in orange and black uni forms made the ice look like the nbc peacock star of the game was clown- prince long john henderson goalie for the famous old- timers his antics between the pipes and all over the ice for that matter kept the huge crowd laughing and cheering he assisted on two goals five goal lead the oldtimers opened up a five goal lead in the first period on tallies from barry cullen 2 harry watson sid smith and brian cullen a threeman markham break away with long john gone to the dressing room paid off as the puck was shot into the open net two seconds after the final whistle had blown the goal was disallowed as the middle frame began henderson was signing auto graphs in the corner while his team mates held off the opposi tion chuck gruber broke the ice for the allstars and his team managed to score four more before the period ended one of those goals was scored by henderson himself another came as long john busied him self by scooping snow off the ice and flicking it at the spectators markhams other goals in the second frame came off the sticks of paul smart dave jennings and bob lovell however the nhlcrs were doing a bit of scoring themselves as watson notched his second and cal gardiner bob goldham and sid smith with his second made the score 95 an uneventful first half of the third period produced only one goal that by harry watson it gave the markham resident hat trick for the night midice dance at exactly the 10 minute mark long john henderson got tired of playing hockey he skated erratically to the stands chose blonde janet crawford and began twisting with her at centre ice such an act is illegal in mark ham and two men dressed as officers of the law rushed onto the ice one of them losing his balance and landing hard back side forward once his compos ure had been regained he and his fellow officer immediately placed long john under arrest for causing a disturbance the great goaltender wanted no part of it as he struggled to break loose from the long arm of the law however c a n a- dian justice held firm and the suspect was firmly subdued and handcuffed to the cross bar of his net long john still wanted his freedom and lifting the net off its mounts he skated around the ice his cage following long john had a few words to offer the spectators regarding the law enforcement in markham and grabbed the microphone in the penalty box to speak his mind it was ten minutes before a real police officer came alone with the key to release hender son from his unwanted passen ger blocks penalty shot both teams finally settled down and each shared in two goals markhams goal came from chuck gruber while sid smith notched his third for th oldtimers a penalty shot awarded to paul smart after henderson threw his stick was stopped easily by the lanky goalie in the last minute of play all the markham allstar players leaped over the boards in an effort to tie the score but hen derson held firm and tha kama ended 116 other players on the old- timers lineup included wally stanowski ivan irwin murray henderson ron hurst and johnnie mccormack in the markham lineup were bob ruffino harry young ken ridd jim jones bruce
