2943520 the cruelty ok children to parents although this statement usually reads the cruelty of parents to children we often do not realize that when two words of the statement are reversed the statement is still very meaningful now the statement reads the cruelty of children to parents the ways in which children literally kill their parents may not seem as destructive as a beating but really it can destroy a person even more in this day and age there has been a great population explosion more and more children are being born today in a world of rules and regulations there are the good children who try to obey these laws and make their parents proud of them and there are the bad children who bring their parents heartbreak and disgrace when a child is born the parents think only of the comforts and love they can bestow on their child soon time passes and they realize their child is bringing them only tears this is as deep a hurt to the parents as if you took a knife and slaughtered them when we think of the cruelty of children lo parents we think of children who have turned into juvenile delin quents or thievesl children whose main purpose is to destroy everything they get their hands on this is not always true a child can display cruelty every day of his life one of the worst things for a parent to face is the fact that his son or daughter is a failure not only at school or in his social life but he is a failure as a human being the parents of children often realize that their child ren will be failures at certain things because they know- no one person is created perfect but nothing is more dis- asterous than having a child who isnt even a human being someone who strives to help others and realizes that there are more people in the world than him when this happens the child involved destroys the only thing left his parents there are many other ways that children are cruel to their parents there are even ways which we think of only lightly one such way is the use of bad manners when a distinguished guest is visiting you or when you are visiting others people usually get a good idea of what the childs parents are like just by studying the child if someone very important to your parents witnesses you displaying rude manners and pushing or bullying people around the visitor is bound to think that the childs parents act in the same way this could mean the refusal of an important job or whether or not your parents are accepted in society your actions towards your parents can mean the difference between a happy or an unhappy home pleasing your parents in all ways should be one of the most import ant things you ever accomplish today a childs best friend is his parents instead of trying to find ways he can harm or offend his parents he should be trying his best to please them and make them proud of him it is so easy to be cruel to parents that it takes no will power or energy but one of the hardest things to do is to overcome wrong and head in the right direction today we live in a world of problems we are con stantly finding new solutions for these but the problem of the cruelty of children to parents is by far the most outstanding every day we should live that day to the fullest and i try lo contribute something not only to ourselves but to our parents and country if we cannot be kind and respect the wishes of our parents it will be almost impossible for us to contribute to mankind if these are the attitudes we will take to ward the only people who care whether we live or die we should wish we had never been born ruth parsons dc students visit computer at waterloo alan lee ha on saturday march 27th a group of grade 12 and i3 stu dents spent the day at watpiioo university they were shown through thp computer centre at waterloo along with many other students throughout ontario the students made up different questions to put into the com puter in order to do this each question had to be programmed and punched out on cards if the student made a mistake while setting up his question the computer rejected the pro gramme and told where the mistake was the primp pur- nose of the days activities was waterloo university also spon sors thp annual mathematics contests in ontario on wednes day march 31st the junior mathematics contest for grades 9 10 11 was written at stouff ville and the senior hi questions answers question of the week what is your favorite sport and why answer generally i like all sports my favorite sport though is swimming because one may swim in whatever fashion one pleases but the main reason i like this refreshing sport is that it gives me a change when im tired of standing on solid ground hildegard otto answer my favorite sport is hockey because the fast skating and shooting the body contact and the twists and turns of the lightning action appeal to me it is canadas national sport and one of the easiest major sports to understand nearly every canadian boy plays it whether on frozen lakes or in j organized teams on artificial ice j anyone who has learned the basic ways of skating shooting stickhandling lias his favorite team and players this is partic ularly true around stanley cup playoff time when it is not in frequent for the excitement to reach a fever pilch and hockey becomes the major topic of con versation the speed the clever stick- handling of individual players the booming slapshots jarring bodychecks the thrilling break aways the saves of alert goalies and the intricate passing of team play off combine to mike hockey the most exciting sport in canada the fact that onethird of canada watches it is ample proof of its popularity dieter schnell 10d answer what is yotir favourite sport hockey football basketball why do you like your choice is it because you can sit hack at home in front of the idiot- box and see the world series ihat you like a certain sport i say there is only one way of finding out how good a sport is and that is by playing it if you make your judgment by watch ing a game of some sort you dont know what you are talk ing about so you are a hockev fan so you go home at night to see the hockey game and its your favourite sport i must have offended you but not real ly when you watch a game it no longer is a sport for you it has become entertainment for those who are playing it is a sport hut for them only per haps the original question should be reworded into the sport which i find most enter- tainins however i must answer the question generally i would say that i like the sport best that i am playing at the time hut there are many of these at the moment i would choose bad minton if you think badminton is a light game try playing it it is one of the most tiring games there is quick jerky movements are required and good reexcs are indispensiblc you must have a good eye and be able to think fast and logi cally therefore badminton is a game which contains skill and strength in a more proportio nate way than any of the snorts such as hockey fooball base ball or volleyball as a result badminton offers a real chal lenge for the good wellrounded athlete herbert otto 12a editors mail april the 3rd the editor the stouffville tribune i dear sir j as one of mr balls socalled j armchair liberals 1 most ex press my shock at hearing his sermon against canadian parti cipation in the freedotr march can this possibly be the chinch speaking he suggested that we cannot appreciate the problem because we are so far away from it no doubt he is right but is it really none of our bus iness perhaps mr ball feels that auschwitz and buchen- wald were also none of our business they were a long way away mr ball seemed to feel that white southerners are io be piti ed for having to put op with the problems of those dreadful negroes this statement that in general negroes are dirty and ignorant that they live like animals and that they smell bad is too appalling to con template has mr ball never seen slum conditions in canada where there are white people who are dirty and ignorant and live like animals has he never smelled white poverty ask any social worker and yet no one tries to prevent the dir ty ignorant white man from exercising his right to vote it is the business of the church to take a stand on moral issues a stand which would i presume be against injustice and there is no doubt at all that the negroes in alabama have been treated unjustly marnie williamson boys sports on friday march 26th stouffville high sent seven con testants four boys and three girls to the they the neg ro live like swine and the white people living in the south are just like us and if we were living there and had their pro blems we would behave in much the same way that they do dont count me in on that we mr ball i still believe in love thy brother no matter what shade the skin furthermore i cannot believe we would tolerate the bombing of churches killing four young children i will not believe we would allow a mounted posse to swing clubs and bullwhips against men women and children nor would we allow klansmen to drop tear gas grenades beside the helpless victims the american negro is look ing for his place in the sun he is tired of being the last hired and the first fired he is tired of having to stand in the crowd ed back section of a segregated bus while the white only front is empty he is tired of walking a number of blocks out of his way for a drink of water from a public fountain be cause the one inches away has a sign white only he is tired of arriving at the negro section of town where the sidewalk ends and the dirt road begins and the stench of the open gut ter fills the air he is tired of bullets ripping through his tin covered shack just ever the heads of his sleeping family be cause he was seen attcmnting to register to vote he i tired of living in fear he has nothing to lose and everything to gain by demanding the basic right of citizenship the right to vote it is with dignity that thpv are marching and achieving this goal i wish i could tell you more but the young negro liudfnt whom i was anxious to hear speak on the subject at a meet ing in toronto was unable to attend you see his skull was fractured a few days before on bloody sunday march 7th in selma by the barbaric animals reverend ball justifies ironic but
