edi torial could prove beneficial i am glad to provide some of the background information you invite as in other communities ma ny citizens of markham care e- nough about their home envir onment to do something helpful and have been doing what they could individually and in local groups but there has been in creasing awareness of the need for townshipwide communica tion understanding and coop eration this awareness led dif ferent people to consider what form of organization would be most suitable but there was some hesitation as to who should take the initiative the planning group whose recommendations finally pro duced our organization had three clearly stated objectives 1 to establish contact be tween as many different inter est groups official and volun tary as possible so that each may appreciate the objectives of the other 2 to enroll as members experienced persons who prefer to act on facts ra ther than impulse 3 to fa cilitate community improve ments in ways acceptable to present citizens and at a mini- i mum tax cost as stated in your editorial we do represent a good cross- section of community interests but we are not a closed corpo ration and would welcome a representative from any organ ization interested in markham township we have ben quite surprised at the alarm raised in certain quarters at our requests for ad ditional facts as you stated the press can only report what it hears and too often this has not been enough for mature de cision making by all the parties affected facts are like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle if we have en ough of them put together we no longer have to guess what is the real picture for that reason we are devel oping facilities for getting background information and communicating it to our mem bers in our bulletin and we welcome the cooperation of the press and the citizens in this community service yours cordially eric w baker chairman markham township citizens committee houston and miss claire me robb also of
