she was encour aged by her physical education teacher she took part in field day events while attending ss ivo 11 markham township but oidnt take it seriously until she entered high school while in her first years at markham district sue won her share of ribbons and awards in the nys5a north york and the gbssa georgian bay competitions only after her enrolment into toronto track clubs did she have the opportunity to really prove herself she trained for a number of months at the east york club but did not enter any national competitions in 1964 sue joined at east york probably the best move she ever made it was with this organization that she entered no less than four major compe titions and fared well above par in each of them heavy schedule last summer sue entered track meets throughout canada and topped off her holiday sea son on labour day at the cne grounds in toronto her summer began with the eastern canada championships in summerside prince edward island where she came up with first place with a mark of 51 the canadian championships in august at montreal saw her attain a height of 53 and place third in that same month sue travelled to winnipeg for the was here that she her best record to hibition it j cached 54 date sue returned to school in september but continued a vi- i gorous training program each tuesday she works out in the gymnasium and on saturdays she can be found at cawathra square a drill centre in down- town toronto k of c meet recently sue was invited to attend the knights of columbus silver anniversary track meet after officials wanted a high jumper from southern ontario the meet held in cleveland march i9th gave her another chance to show the sporting world she will go right to the top she ranked third in the meet jumping 52 but the world champion lolanda balas attain ed an astounding mark of 510 sue and her mother flew to cleveland and the flight mark ed the first time either had ever been on a plane sue was back in toronto saturday afternoon less than 24 hours after she had left i had to study for exams she said sue has her sights set on a number of famous track meets in the future she has started training for the british empire games to be held in jamaica in in 1966 the panamerican ga mes in winnipeg in 1967 and the big one the summer olym pics in mexico in 1968 her collection of medals rib bons and pins is
