chicks 62 in a regu lar league game played in ux bridge neil saunders scored a hattrick for the winners clippers who have failed to gain a point since december 8th played good fast hockey monday and now must start the climb back up the ladder to top spot a position they held early in the campaign since they hit the skids the clip pers slipped from first to third spot in the league standings early lead the stouffville club broke louse fvi three goals in the first period coming off the sticks of rod kelson 2 and neil saun ders pete reesor scored at the 15 second mark of the second frame to make it 40 then the lights went out literally ap parently a fuse had blown and one bank of lights flooding the ice faded then died seconds later the arena including the gondola and canteen was plun ged into darkness the situa tion however was rectified in short order and play resumed confused flay with the play in tne stouff ville zone one of the clipper players shot the puck the full length of the ice a situation us ually whistled down by refer ees as icing linesman george kydd followed the play into uxbridge territory and as the puck slid across the red line he raised his hand in smart fa shion indicating a whistle on the play however the referee didnt blow his tweeter and kydd slowly dropped his arm the clippers expecting the whistle to be sounded didnt follow the puck rather slack ened off in the centre zone an uxbridge player picked up the disk skated the length of the ice passing and stickhandling amidst a befuddled stouffville team and placed the puck neatly behind chuck doyle the player bill payne was mobbed by his fellow men for scoring the goal however rod kelson wasnt quite as jubilant he reminded kydd of the ic ing but the official allowed the goal and the clippers led 41 at the end of the middle frame a fight developed early in the final period with jim hood and bill payne tangling with each other hood who stands a good 6 over payne got some pretty mean swipes at his op ponent but payne unafraid wouldnt back down referee kydd finally broke up the brawl and assessed five min ute fines on each player neil saunders fired his third of the night at 830 of the final frame when he placed the puck behind dave smith who ap peared shaky and nervous throughout the contest how ever smith did come up with some key saves and stopped more than 30 shots smith on one occasion caught the puck and held on to it without a player anywhere near him according to the new rul es this year any goalie holding onto the puck for three seconds or more will be penalized for delaying the game smith had the puck in his possession for a good five seconds before kydd whistled the play enter rod kelson who must know every rule in the book backwards to argue the situation the assist ant captain recited the rule to kydd then kydd recited a rule to kelson rod was given a 10- minute misconduct for debating the point also entered in the new rules this year is a clause that no one including captains and assistantcaptains can ar gue with the officials kelson went to the cooler but not be fore he expressed his feelings to clipper coach harold hod gson stops breakaway uxbridge scored the final goal of the night at 1455 when marcel brocher scored on a breakaway earlier in the third period doyle stopped john mc millan on a breakaway mc millan had clear ice from cen tre but doyle outsmarted him loyal clipper fans most of them young girls were on hand to cheer their team to victory the only afternoon game of the season will be played new years day at the
