uxbridge twp council re ceived the resignation of their welfare officer len pilkey at a regular meeting on monday night it will become effective on dec 31st reeve norman hogg expressed surprise at the over road costs budget deficit road expenditures in whit church township are likely to exceed councils budget esti mate according to the belief of road supt ernest davis mr davis told council on monday night that with the present ac counts and the payroll for no vember and december it would appear that there would be a deficit of 12000 and with any unforseen expenditures this amount could rise to 15 000 by the end of the year council at present has a def inite interview date with the minister of highways for nov 20th council may take this op portunity to draw attention to this office for a two- year term according to a by law passed at a special meeting last month nominations for the office of reeve deputy- reeve and three councillors will be accepted on thursday eve ning some time christ church anglican having erected a fine new church hall on sunset blvd at the westend some time ago the stouffville municipal council had shown interest in purchasing the property a year ago as a new entranceway to memorial park but this pro posal was later dropped a special committee of the stouffville lions has been meet ing regarding the question of purchase on several occasions and had discussed the possibili ties for the property with the local church authorities how ever the crackdown on the lions club moneymaking plans had practically forced the club to bow out of the picture during the meetings of the lions special committee vari ous uses for the property liava been outlined these include an entranceway to the park the location for a building for use of small groups in town who are unable to finance the rental of present hall facilities a place for various youth organizations to operate and a chance for future expansion into a full- fledged community centre it has also been thought that the lions efforts on the property might be tied in with the com munitys recognition of can adas centennial art latcham gives 2500 to lions club as car draw is threatened with raid arthur latcham already stouffvilles biggest benefactor came to the rescue again last week and donated 2500 to the stouffville lions club when their 10 lucky ticket car draw
