moore les wilson bill mc- the twp of pickering has population of less than 200 per sons in spite of the smallness o this compact community there are no less than eight softball teams that furnish recreation for 101 local play ers in two separate leagues this amazing sports program has been promoted mainly through an active community centre board that is continu ally sponsoring moneymaking projects to cover the cost of this major operation green wood now has its own park a scenic centre a short distance to the south of the village it is hoped that some day the playing field may be served by floodlights sixtyfive boys and thirty- one girls are playing softball this summer in addition five men are on the roster of the greenwood senior team in the claremont group a junior club of 1 1 lads also perform in the same circuit four boys teams and two girls clubs are part of a large pickering town ship league a breakdown of the indivi dual lineups shows 12 boys in the atoms 13 in the squirts 12 in peewee 11 in midget it in the minor girls and 14 in the intermediate girls the juniors are considered to be prime contender for the clare mont title this year and the intermediate men
