league playoffs but there was j ro holding them in their march to the ontario rural title on thursday night in the lxbridge arena they trimmed ailsa craig s3 to sweep the best of three intermediate c series in two straight they took the op- oner 43 at slrathroy the win ders had previously knocked off schomberg and wainfleet to earn a crack at the champion ship the trio of bob moffat xeil pascoe and paul tran was the top scoring threat for green woodmt zion and figured in six of their eight tallies moffat fired three and collected two as sists pascoe also hit for a hat trick and assisted on one har old hodgson potted a pair the visitors looking like the proverbial raggedyanns with unpatched pants unmatched stockings and unimpressive sweaters showed a keen will to win even when the lopsided score left little doubt concern ing the eventual victors don kennedy with two and john priestly were the ailsa craig rcarksmen the stanley cup game in to ronto presented strong opposi tion to sentative was present from ox bridge they may be replaced by victoria square a second meeting will be held monday evening apr 29th at brougham individual entry fees of s15 per team must be submitted at that time the league schedule will open on monday may 13th the parks at brougham clare mont and possibly stouffville will he utilized brock road u a new entry they will be coached by veteran outfielder and former brougham star jack bradshaw claremont will return to the fold again they will be handled by earl pilkey who like bradshaw has seen many seasons of active service with several local teams earl rowe will again take over the reins for pickering srs and geo staley will guide the for tunes of the snappy young greenwood jr squad earl gauslin will be back with green wood srs and dean watson is a likely returnee with good wood altona will operate under tile stouffville nameplate little is known of brougham the defending champs much of their hopes of retaining the title will rest on bob millers decision whether to return or retire the club held a pre season meeting monday night six yearold greenwood girl top baton- twirer helen louise disney six year old daughter of mr and mrs ross disney greenwood was awarded first prize in the open novice solo class of the provincial batontwirling com petitions held in the kitchener memorial auditorium on april 19th and 20th helen a grade 1 pupil at the greenwood kinsale public school was among the more than 400 entries who took part from all across ontario the contest is sponsored by the ca nadian twirling association the public school teacher they live in toronto he was born and raised in unionville and first became interested in golf at a driving range there later he was taught the game by morty charles then the teaching pro at thornhill and finally began his professional career late this season westview will open up its additional nine holes for a total of 27 plans are that two of the nines will he designated as the 18 holes for the day but those who want to play only nine holes will not have to wait it takes from 3vi to 4 hours to play 18 holes at westview and about two hours to play nine this will particularly suit the late afternoon golfer mr carey says he can arrive at the course after work and easi ly get his nine holes in with out a long wait assisting in the pro shop is randy alcorn a
