would print what i one of the thief topics of this controversy now have to say regarding this matter i think it is time that i got the truth to the public of stouffville though i must con fess that many are not friends oi the truth first i want to thank the youth of this area for their fine gesture when i resigned from the police department here they were not asking council for anything but a chance to express their opinion about myself this apparently seemed to be not in the coun cils makeup to allow anyone especially a young person to say anything good about any one working for the town unless of course it was a coun cillor so he may pick up a few votes come election time so to the youth i say thanks and to the council i say the following after working here for three and a half years on the police force i received only one raise of s20000 this brought my pay up to the astounding total of 420000 whenever the subject o raise was broached to council they would answer with the following quote if you dont like what you are being paid you can always quit peoplo of stouffville do you consider this to be a state ment from a democratic per son let alone a person en trusted to administer the af fairs of the town there have been police prob lems here ever since the opp left the truth of the matter is that other than a lew minor differences of opinion among the officers which is natural the fault of the existing dissert tion lies entirely on the coun cils shoulders for trying to run a department they know nothing whatsoever about who among the council are properly qualified to run a police depart ment perhaps the lawyer should have a lair idea but never at any time showed any indication of this ability a cabbage farmer an insur ance salesman a carpenter a long sinceretired farmer a concrete worker its a pretty good lineup lor chief oi police isnt it it is noticed that the new chief of police is to receive a salarv of s5000 and allowance of 300 folks this is 5300 for you to pay in taxes and to hink that the council would not even consider a small raise each year lor the men they al ready have lor the men who are paying through the nose for taxes here is the chief going to run safety campaigns and the like i hope lor his and your sakes that he does i say- that the two existing officers wages are not sufficient in com parison to the new chiefs i state that by doing this the council have pulled one of the most underhanded and unfair moves they have ever pulled and they have pulled a few what is the solution to this problem in town here get a new council this fall men who are perhaps a little younger men who are not members of the old clique men who are fully interested in the affairs of the town and the people in it men who will raise a
