arrested and handcuffed they were taken to the buitonville station in mark ham twp and later turned over to the whitby detachment of the ontario provincial police charged with robbery with an offensive weapon were spen cer duquesne 20 james white 23 donald beattie 24 and allan modesty 19 all of toronto fix flat tire when the two men first ap peared at mr watsons home they said that their car had a flat tire they were told to go next door to a garage operated by a son claude he was then pulled outside then shoved back into the premises while one stood guard the other went up stairs it was then that mr watson ran for the door a scuffle ensued and the victim was hit over the head with a gun it was only recently that mr watson returned home from hospital after undergoing an operation he fell to the floor and played unconscious and the two mon left he ran to hii sons home nearby and the police were notified the telephone call was re ceived at the buttonville depot in markham twp by pc clifford cox two cruisers were immed iately dispatched to cutoff points at gormley and ringwood markham village was also alert ed the officers had no descrip tion of any vehicle but concen trated their efforts on spotting the two men who were involved in the assault at about 11j0 pm constables wm vance and wm gunn of markham village noticed a possible suspect and gave chase at the same time pc al hudson and pc bruce findlay of markham twp were instructed to converge on the area the four men three negro and one while offered no resis tance when arrested a coin box was found on the rear seat illness john b brillinger lifelong farmer in whitchurch town ship passed away at his home on dec 22nd he was born in the township on april isth 1876 in 1905 the deceased mar ried ada hare who survives him and together the couple has lived retired for some time mr brillinger was identified with the second markham bap tist church besides his wife he is survived by two sons earl and wesley both of whit church and two daughters ian mrs fred giliham and gladys at home there is also one sister minnie mrs ralph atkinson the funeral on wednesday was conducted by rev bruce hisey from second markham farms from assess hikes earl dowswell warden of ontario county and reeve of uxbridge twp said that assessment employees would be risking their lives if they attempted to in crease farm assessments in
