a narrow escape from seri ous injury by a relative two weeks ago their son braces boat blew up on the river at wallaceburg singeing his daughter wendys clothes and hair and damaging the boat beyond repair last week mrs jones brother m bunker was driving his car near the medical clinic in stouffville when a large tree limb fell across the car just in front of the wind shield mr bunker was unhurt of the season and elected new officers for the coming year they are as follows president howard at kinson vice-pres- mrs george arnold jr secretary mrs gerald johnson social mrs alex woods and mrs bert crai- gie membership mr and mrs john buchanan programme jack stewart and bob leitch mr s r patterson chairman of finance for tsa no 3 and mr gordon mortson whose bus transports the children to and from no 5 school at button ville were present to discuss matters of transport with the parents the timetable has been a problem but mr mortson stated the bus would be at no 7 highway and don mills road at 815 and would leave lunar drive and don mills at am- leigh heights at 820 arnleigh heights is the source cf half of this years school population with more than 45 children attending from that area several parents have tak en advantage of the school bus which takes children to bay- viewglen school and there are 7 or 8 attending that kinder garten at a cost of 50c per day at buttonville the meeting kathy brown has been ill re cently so ill in fact that she could not see her triumphs at markham fair kathy took first prize for her curled paper cat and a painting in the school exhibits mrs morrison seller was a visitor at the rodick home this week the quilting at mrs a rob insons will be held wednesday october 10 instead of this week w i quilters will work from 1030 am have lunch at the robinson home and continue through the afternoon mr and mrs richard pralet were successful in markham fairs flower and vegetable competition classes mrs pralet taking firsts for pansies petun ias a collection of annuals and pom pom zinnias and a third for zinnias other variety mr pralets seven firsts seven sec onds and three fourths for vegetables included a first for his collection of vegetables and three fourths for varieties in the very large potato class mrs george barker excelled in the flower arrangements win ning first prize in two classes and mr and mrs wm mcgimp- sey won second prize for eggs bill robinson took 12 ribbons including 6 firsts in the 4h club and cattle judging classes including reserve grand cham pion for sr yearling heifer in the open and 1st prize for his heifer in the 4h club the burr sisters beverley and san dra took home their share of ribbons too in the junior institute section beverley won two firsts for a wool dress and her cherry pie her shoe bag gtought a second sandra took firsts for a wool skirt and shoe bag winning second for muffins in the 4h club sandra took firsts for a summer skirt and shorts and in the craft club section she won two firsts and a second first in showmanship and second for her calf the buttonville junior institute won second prize for their display and the junior farmers took first for theirs in the womens institute sec tion buttonville women were awarded third prize for their bounty of the county display and won the federation of agriculture prize for the best agricultural exhibit wednesday browns corners ucw entertained women from various neighbouring churches when they held their autumn thankoffering miss margaret halliday a retired missionary who spent 30 years in angola africa was the guest speaker and wm rodick conducted the service mrs donald reesor played the organ and accompa nied mrs george hooper when she sang two solos mrs s j english introduced the guest and mrs harold steffler made courtesies sunday october 7 will be communion service at brovvns corners church october 23 from 5 oclock on the smor gasbord dinner at the chuirh october 13 saturday the mes sengers will hold their first meeting november 10 the bazaar recently a letter was received from the om3 stating that the application was granted as applied for in the recent water hearing this means among other things that buttonville is now in the water area of mark ham townships southwest sec tor and residents up to and including lot 14 will pay the 2 mills levy which is to be charg ed over the area mr j a
