excuses on the tip of your tongue i will sum up this letter in one sent ence in case you have to toddle off to golf tennis cut the grass or fix those leaky taps any father who can find time to at- tend or take part in the many social functions this town has to offer and who will not help with the training of his son is a hypocrite we have people who are do- gooders without any real effort on their part and some para sites who except for the food they buy are useless to their sons development we have in this town so many organiza tions and every one has one or two nights a month to meet some of them if you dont at tend regularly have a group who will get after you too bad i say that some of this time and effort couldnt be directed towards your son i did you know fathers of our future hockey greats that coaches for the hockey teams didnt fight toss coins or even ask to be able to coach a team no the boys were barely lucky enough to get enough men out to help did you know fathers that our future baseball stars didnt have to draw names out of a hat to see wlio would coach them what father might be given the opportunity to teach some kid to catch a ball maybe tell him where first and second base is on the ball diam ond we have eager boys anxious to learn and we are too busy- busy at what did the grass really have to be cut saturday morning must golf be played saturday morning nothing makes us as proud as even the little achievements our boys make must it always be the same few men who help the boys they have grass to cut work to do at home or maybe play a game of golf or curling these men are necessary they are essential without these men to get out saturday morn ing what good are all the mon ey raising schemes we start the work some groups do in this town cannot be matched in most towns of this size but levs not spend all our effort drag ging money out of the fathers this is the easy way lets spend a few meetings on the ball dia mond with the boys not just thinking about them go down to the park saturday morning i did and saw four men and i would guess maybe a hundred boys take a baseball with you no trouble to find anyone to play catch remember what it was like when you played ball the hats sweaters gloves they are nice to have ill not knock that but the interest you show is essential without that inter est and the effort it takes to get out on the ball diamond our money raising ventures only go to serve our own personal need for easy recognition and amuse ment a dad mt lion loses to aces despite mr and mrs r s nelson of rlngwood and mr tidsburys home run shot into left centrefield was the big blow of the game- it came in the 8th inning with team mates harry young and bob at kinson parked on the sacks although tidsburys golf shot sewed up the markham win it was an infield error in the 3rd inning that put the aces in front to stay mt zions vern ferguson threw wild to second- sacker grant jones in an ef fort to nip markhams jackie robinson the ball rolled into right field and the baserunner came home to score mt zion were hitting the of ferings of lefthander bob ellis unusually well but some fine defensive plays left six men stranded only catcher murray jones advanced farther than second base hurler hendy looked good he registered 8 strike outs and retired the markham side in on der in the 1st 2nd and 6th at the plate
