chevrolet to a 1962 buick went into the making of this modern garden tractor a the fruits of a winters work sprung from les milroys cellar workshop at the first sign of spring up the steps and out the back door in pieces it must be admitted came a bright red highly efficient little tractor that purred into action at the first pull of the starting rope at a glance it looks like a beautiful model only four feet overall length of the frame painted and chromed straight off a masseyferguson assembly line only on close examination are a few inconsistencies evi dent the plate coveriing the universal joint for example is stamped buick one by one parts of five different cars be gin to identify themselves and the mechanical genius behind the little machine is realized the frame was cut down f rorn a chevy of the antique class the transmission came from a morris stock car wrecked at pmecrest rear wheels once pro pelled a morris minor and the front wheels might have ended up on a couple of wheelbarrows had les not taken his busmans holiday the steering box is from a prefect and the steering wheel once piloted a 60 pontiac and there is no horn the thought ful omission of a father of four lively children it is one up on the parent- tractors however with complete hydraulic brakes the little red tractor sails along like a boat on a chain drive that is all motorcycle and a transformer case protects the sprocket from small fingers or vice versa it plows the gar den hauls freight and moves the family from a to b the milroy children are de lighted with their fathers craftsmanship and terribly proud les modestly talks of assembling it from the back to the front and gives its cost without time as seventy dol lars he also adds that it weighs 412 pounds marg intervenes at this point on the bathroom scales one part at a time but marg is proud too and pleased because this one unlike the store variety doesnt inter fere with the tv with their customary charm and efficiency the girls of the cgit entertained their mothers at tea on saturday delicate ta ble bouquets and a brilliant headtable centrepiece trans formed zion church basement into a spring garden
