grass fires in the different townships also fines imposed on some of the taxpayers and the remarks of magistrates i have been puzzled why municipal councils do not work out a pro gram to eliminate this menace at source by having the fire department made responsible when a taxpayer phones in stat ing there is a plot of grass that is a danger to the district and should be burned off they should have one or more of their men go with a large sprayer or other equipment and supervise the burning of same it would assist in the control of weeds and beautify the town ship keep the cost down to a very small margin leaving the fire dept ready to answer any call that might come in where buildings were in danger elim inate the possibility of younger people starting the fire or the careless smoker and the danger of a fire starting with no per son starting it which will be the outcome after a few penal ties are imposed a subscriber glen major miss mabel baker water- down spent the holiday week
