pickering district high schools most coveted awards will be presented to a it year old brougham student at the tenth annual com mencement exercises on friday evening nov 10th gail white grade 13 has been selected as the schools allround girl her name will be inscribed on a beautiful silver trophy she will retain a smaller replica of the award aaron fenton of pickering village has been similarly honoured as the ail- round boy the trophy is emblematic of academic athletic and activ ity excellence according to the principal mr j c richard son miss white can qualify in each category in addition to her academic ability she has a keen interest in many extra curricular functions she is the president of the school choir president of the prefects student leaders intermediate field day champion captain of the volleyball team and winner of the school letter award aaron fenton is the president of the students council and is active in school choir and basketball promotions the names of both little interest in library issue the question concerning the adoption of a public library program for the township of pickering has apparently cre ated little interest among the ratepayers in the municipality less than twenty persons at tended a discussion meeting on the subject in brougham on thursday night the question will be placed on the ballot at the forthcoming elections on dec 9th it was defeated last year miss june munro supervisor of extension services of the provincial library system was the guest speaker miss munro contended that under the public library sys tem more books meeting will be in the school may require court extension to cope with appeals pickering twp council has agreed by bylaw to extend the annual court of revision period one month in order that all ap peals may be heard the court will now conclude on dec 29th instead of nov 30th a suggested 320 applicants had filed an estimated 600 ap peals on their assessments it is not known whether the addition al time will be required request speedup a delegation of east rouge residents urged the council to speed up their presentation of facts to the ontario municipal board in order that work might begin on the installation of a system on a local improvement plan reeve sherman scott ex plained that a letter from the clerk to the omb had become lost in the mails and never reached the toronto office there candidate in the 1961 campaign miss swan appeared before a regular meeting of council on monday night to pro test a group of hunters flag rant disregard of both people and property within recent weeks
