stouffville bakery marks forty years of progress with fine enlarged store premises stouffville bakery operated by the stover family is this year marking forty years of progress on this milestone the stovers have opened one of the finest bake goods stores to be found anywhere the new en larged premises is bright air- conditioned and has ample space to display the dozens of flne bake goods which the firm makes it is interesting to note that stouffvilles first bakery was opened in 1s91 by j b vurts and required fifteen barrels of flour a week this bakery was eventually sold to frank gor don and later to frank row- botham in 1921 ambrose stover ac quired the bakery which by this time had grown to an out put of 30 barrels of flour a week had seven men on the staff and required 9 horses and 2 trucks for delivery purposes today the bakery is operated by harry stover son of the man who took over the business forty years ago the output of the bakery has almost tripled and the staff numbers more than twenty employees the use of horsedrawn vehicles for de livery was discontinued ten years ago and the firm now operates five trucks all the bread produced today is wrapped and there are over one dozen varieties in addition to the great host of other fine bake goods the stouffville bak ery delivers within a radius of twelve miles of town aid the renown of its products is known much farther than that none of the original equip ment used by the stover family remains in use today numerous new mechanical devices have been added both for producing and wrapping operations the great bread ovens once fired by coke then changed to oil are presently being converted to gas the svouffylui tohjne thcrkfiy fax i 1961 fj 3 local and personal happenings weddings f mr randall birkett of regina j
