district high schools athlete of the year the darkhaired competitor was selected out of seven other entries the official presentation was made by the donor mr neil patrick at the first annual athletic banquet on friday eve ning the handsome seventeen year old is indeed a worthy recipient of the award as his last years record clearly indi cates as a fleetfooted halfback on the football squad he ts best remembered for his outstanding 100 yard plunge through a maze of markham tacklers for a near touchdown his strong rebounding tactics bolstered the defence on the championship junior basketball team he is an avid gymnast and as a track and field man his achievements in the 440 880 relay and shotput have been outstanding his team mates consider him a hard working determined and uncomplaining competitor regardless of the game his high standard of sportsmanship his keen interest and a genuine will to win have made him a stouffviue high school great in spite of his numerous athletic activities lloyd has been able to maintain his academic standing at a level in excess of the so per cent mark the announcement of the winners name by mr patrick was greeted with a tumultuous applause lloyds name will be inscribed on a beautiful gold trophy lloyd a quiet unassuming type of athlete has risen to the peak of high school stardom strictly on the merits of his own ability he and bettyann slack will represent their school at the ontario athletic leadership training camp at orillia early in august the guest speaker for the occasion was the noted tele vision sportscastcr mr fred sgambatti he presented a chal lenging message to all young athletes assembled in the audi torium head table guests included mr duxbury sirs greshani mr sgambatti mrs lee mr kehill mrs button diane nelson and don eddington mrs buttons remark that a new athletic track was on the high school boards agenda brought an enthusiastic response from the students individual awards ten individual awards and three team presentations were made including the following mr h g thurston presented the thurston interform basketball trophy to representative helen busato of 11a bill corner accepted the john houston shield for grade 10b it was presented by mr houston a beautiful brierbush hospital trophy was presented by mr e h reed to wayne hamilton representing grade 11a andrew watson the outstanding performer in track received the stouffviue bakery trophy presented by mr h w stover the outstanding performer in field glenn jackson received the hamilton automotive supplies award presented by mr belfry hamilton the entrants in the allontario meet john kiddle glenn jackson and laurie buckland were introduced by mr rehill the len wilkes trophy for the outstanding basketball player went to mike paul the presentation was made by mr wilkes a surprise presentation of individual engraved trophies to the junior boys basketball team was made by mr c e hendricks a huge wine and white banner was also donated to the school by mr hendricks mr neil patrick presented his award to lloyd graves as the outstand ing athlete of the year two staff teachers mr mercer and mr marshall presented athletic bars to the junior girls and junior boys basketball teams and to the members of the cheerleader team one award missing one special award was missing a trophy for outstand ing generosity was certainly well deserved for mr hendricks not only did he purchase individual trophies and a cham pionship banner for the junior basketball boys but also used his influence to obtain mr sgambatti tor the special occasion town honours uxbridge teams at public banquet two uxbrldge hockey clubs were honoured at a public ban quet held in thj legion hall on saturday night more than 150 persons were present the black hawks intermediate c champions were presented with engraved silver tie bars and cuff links by the town the midgets ontario finalists re ceived jackets mr l e oneill of stouff viue oha representative prais ed the teams efforts in bringing the title to the town in their in itial season of operation he presented each player with in dividual medals two profes sional hockey stars
