compete in a district tournament still no decision has been reached on the eligibility of the senior girls volleyball team that recently defeated all comers in the b league they remain unofficial champions a grade 9 girls volleyball team coached by miss seibel has been entered in league com petition uniforms yes or no the suggestion has been made that the students at stouffville high school should wear a school uniform it will be our purpose this week to present some of the pos and cons that arose from interviews with the teachers and students on this subject we found that it was mainly the girls who supported the idea as it would solse their clothes competition problem many of them however were doubtful about giving up their wardrobes to wear the same costume every day the boys were far more skep tical they argued that the girls clothes competition prob lem was an imaginary one the better dressed girls dont expect the others to keep up with them nor do the others worry about not being stylish a number of the seniors agreed that the switch to uniforms would be too drastic a change otherj stated that it would be mon otonous and boring to wear the same thing every day a few more strong points of objection were centered around the words conformity and in dividuality the opinion was that in an age where the mod ern individualistic student ex presses himseii in the way he talks acts and dresses being forced to conform to a master plan would deprive him of valuable facet of expression on the other hand it was mentioned that students were not expressing themselves in a suitable manner by among other things appearing at school dressed too casually school uniforms is one answer to this problem however if the diff erence of opinion is so vast as to prevent the adoption of such a system another answer must be found the suggestion that has been brought forward a number of times before is to have the boys wear a white shirt and tie while the girls retain their high standard of dress this sugges tion was given approval recent ly by a number although not a majority of the students this system is more moderate than the uniform idea yet it still achieves its basic aims if any students wish to ex press their opinions on these subjects kindly submit them in brief letter form to the press reporter and they will appear in next weeks column wo would appreciate your
