initial lineup included the fol lowing names grant wells geo timbers lloyd grove dent brown lester weatherili neil brown murray grove don thomas ed mason murray lewis harry lewis dent smith and jim thomas their first game ended in a 33 tie with don miller ed mason and lloyd grove scoring the goals out of this starting roster only lloyd grove murray grove murray lewis harry lewis and don thomas played regularly last season jack warriner turned in a few games in the net last winter but much of his work was centred around coaching duties from the box in may 151 peachs reached the t h l spring of 195s when they defaulted a semifinal game in the king clancy lea gue because it was scheduled for a sunday afternoon in ra- vina gardens toronto the team was also threatened with a s10 fine the same situation had occurred on one other ear lier occasion but an alternate date was set in both the hockey and soft- ball organization it was jack warriner who kept the boys to gether this summer the soft- ball team also withdrew as a unit from active competition as a club thev came up to- j gether and retired in a similar manner during the past decade in juries were numerous harry lewis suffered a broken leg murray grove suffered a broken collarbone and jack warriner suffered a ninestitch gash near his eye when hit by a flying puck there were other mis haps too numerous to mention in ten years of competition they failed to win a champion ship they captured a softball title at claremont three years ago the nucleus of the team was taken from a young peoples group at the peachs church down through the years an endoftheseason church parade was part of the clubs schedule influenced by this background drinking was not permitted and few of the original players even smoked the line of don thom as murray grove and ed ma son played together as a trio for a number of years on the retirement of ed mason john reesor filled the vacancy and the threesome remained intact until the end of the 195960 sea son in 195152 don thomas headed the teams pointscoring production with 14 goals and 9 assists grant wells geo tim bers jack warriner and last winter jim johnson have all shared the goaltending chores with the clubs complete re tirement this winter it is un likely that they will again re turn as a unit to active league competition their efforts will be confined to openair natural ice rinks from which the team was originally organized appreciation the management and plavers of the stouffville girls softball team are sincerely appreciative of the sponsorship given the trae ringwood and greenwood markham is the newest arrival to the local group they replace peachs who have decided to hang em up after a decade of hockey competition it will be markham vs stouff ville in the first game of the schedule commencing at 8 pm ringwood and ballantrae will follow at 915 and claremont and greenwood will round out the nights activity starting at 11 pm on friday oct 28th it will be claremont vs ballantrae greenwood vs markham and ringwood vs stouffville a com plete schedule for the entire season will be published as soon as the arenas winter program is finalized the six clubs will hold a preseason workout on friday evening of this week although little is known about each individual entry it is ex pected that markham stouff ville ringwood and claremont will ice good clubs ballantrae has acquired some new blood but greenwood is expected to retain the majority of last sea sons performers they hope to obtain additional bench strength in case of injury or illness to key players claremont claremont the reigning cham pions for the past two years will return with such regulars as bill jordan dean evans don benson grant jones jack red shaw wcs evans gary taylor ron take place from 7s pm midget registration will be held from 89 pm on thurs day evening oct 27th the squirt boys will register from c7 pm the bantams will sign up from 78 pm tile entry fee for the
