court to hear assessment appeals by ajax whitby and pickering twp has been nam ed the appeal against the equalized assessment set by on tario county council in june will begin in whitby on oct 11 the order in council names the court as darcy r lee qc of dundas c s bird of the twp of thurlow and r n hartshorn of orillia the ap peal will be heard at the county buildings whitby county bldg would be in whitby if a new county administra tion building or court house is built it will be in whitby on wednesday at a session of the ontario county council the pro perty committee was authorized to take an option on property for such a new building but only within the town of whitby in may of this year the prop erty committee was asked by council to look for a suitable site for a new county adminis tration building the committee reported on tuesday but its report was amended to authorize the com mittee to take an option on suit able property in whitby for either an administration build ing or court council has yet to decide whether to convert the present building to court room space or to administration ofll- ces at present both court and administration are in the same building the property committees or iginal report which was later amended stated on may 2g i960 you author ized the standing committee on county property to examine suitable sites in the county of ontario for the erection of a county administrative building your committee has inspected sites in the towns of uxbrldge and whitby the village of port perry the townships of reach uxbridge and whitby by the terms of reference we were restricted to the examina tion of suitable sites for a coun ty administrative building we would recommend that your committee be authorized to con sider the advisability of leaving the county administrative staff in the present court house and construct a new court house reeve sherman scott of pick ering twp stated that if a new administration building is erect ed the county bears the total cost if a new court house is erected the city of oshawa will share the cost an amendment to the report asked that the property commit tee purchase or as later chang ed take an option on property suitable for either an adminis tration building or a court house a further amendment made by reeve william beard of cannington restricted the property committee to the town of whitby in its selection of a site both these amendments pass ed and the property committee will now select a whitby site take an option on it and report back to county council at its next sitting brougham action be taken on a request from the ajax and pickering general hospital for a grant of 1118768 to assist in the con struction of a new 110bed hos pital after receiving the com mittees report council referred the matter back to the commit tee for further study and report the committee report stated whereas the ajax and picker ing general hospital cannot at this time meet the requirements of bylaw
