senior mem bers o the school they per formed such menial tasks as shining shoes carrying books and lacing up the football team boots that night the real ini tiating got under way and the auditorium became a scene of pandemonium as over 150 fresh men dressed in outlandish cos tumes were put through their paces polling in porridge blow ing flour out of a bowl rolling onions with their noses and be ing smeared with chocolate syr up and whipped cream couldnt dismay the dauntless niners who came through their harrowing experience laughing and smil ing when the business at hand had been completed refresh ments were served and a very successful dance was held on the whole it was an enjoyable evening and a good start to the schools social activities the various committees who organized the event are to be commended the initiating com mittee especially did a fine job of performing its duties with out letting things get out of hand our initiation is a rela tively mild one compared to other schools with the accent on fun rather than on severity and we like it that way we were glad that the niners ac cepted the initiation in the spirit t bes buys in shoes shopping- for shoes is a family hign sports in an exhibition football game last week richmond hill hand ed stouffville its first defeat of the season the richmond hill squad with two previous games under their belts took advant age of our first game greenness and managed a 76 victory the game was forced on us much earlier in the season than we had expected and as a result much of our time was spent in preparing the football field than in practising after only a few practices and still fewer plays worked out stouffville went in to the game unprepared but de termined to make the most of it in offensive and defensive ex perience after the game had started it became evident that we had a lot of kinks to get ironed out our own clumsiness gave richmond hill a touchdown and a number of free firstdowns our team was penalized repeat edly fnd even a 60 yd touch down which would have won the game for us was called back the feeling with the team was we were unsatisfied with our performance but have profited by our mistakes and gained some valuable experience des pite the score standout stouff ville performers were turned in by galloping lloyd graves and hardtackling barry mclean travis sugden fillin hulfback for injured roger stover play ed well and carried the ball for stouffvilles only touchdown last monday the stouffville squad went into action again this time against aurora it was an exhibition game also and was used to test tryouts and pick the final team despite the score an embarrassing 260 individual players turned in fine performance and we accomplish ed our purpose by using every play we knew and generally getting the feel of the game one thing that was evident in this game that was missing in the previous one was spirit this time we had a yelling driv ing team of boys who took their football seriously and fought all the way once again barry mclean continued to break up plays by repeatedly sending au rora backfielders crashing to earth alan the straightarm boyd shook off wouldbe tack- lers easily and ran for some good gains the final team has been picked and has a week of hard practising ahead before it meets markham in the first league game of the season we now have the team the plays and the initiative we needed markham here we come in the future when league games start full description of the games as well as statistics highlights and interviews will be given the 196061
