wednesday evening of this week richardson masonic lodge stouffville is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary the centennial program in the lodge hall included a reception to the grand master most wor shipful bio clarence m pitts and presentation of a life mem bership as well as a life mem bership to rt wor bro s s crouch pddgm the history of the stouffville masonic lodge was given by wor bro neil smith and the prayer of re- dedication was given bv ri wor bro mgb williams the grand chaplain in the banquet hall following the lodge ceremony the head table guests were introduced by rt wor bro a e weldoii pddgm the cutting of the birthday cake was presided over by vw bro o m madill p- cs the toast to the grand mas ter and the grand lodge of canada in the province of on tario was proposed by vw bro k r davis pgs and responded to by m wor bro c m bills grand master the toast to richardson lodge was proposed by rt wor bro t john arthur pddgm and responded to by iv m wallace the first master of richard son lodge was lames bowman and the first meeting was hold at cashe on ihe fith concession of markham the meeting place was an inn the building later used as a barn and still stand ing immediately east of the ca- shel corner the name richardson was de rived from right worshipful bro francis richardson a past grand senior warden grand secretary of the grand lodge of canada west bro samuel mighter was innkeeper where the lodge meeting was held and he was ihe first candidate ini tiated the initial slate of offi cers were james bowman jas gibson win trudgen william summerfelt geo gibson john bowman thomas bowman jos cook thos jennings fred d bridgeford david hopkins and john burr four hundred and twelve ma sons have been initiated in rich ardson lodge in its one hund red years and one hundred and two masons have affiliated the present membership is one hun dred and sixtythree with nine life members travelling was often difficult and initiations few in the first few years at cashcl and in i860 the lodge moved to knills hall in stouffville this building was located on the present site of the queens court apartment house meetings were held here for ion years when the building burned down a lease was then secured from daleys hall which was centrally located and had ample accommodation meetings were held in this present lehman block until 193s when the large front room on the same floor was converted into a lodge room and suitable ceremonies were conducted by most wor bro w g dunlop grand mas ter wor bro ray lake was master of the lodge at the time in 1935 when it was necessary that the lodge vacate the leh man block it was agreed that a new building should be erect ed and the lot was purchased at the corner of second st and the 9th concession the first sod was turned on june 35th 1951 wor bro morley symes drew the plans and gave most valu able help and advice in the con struction the first meeting was held in the present masonic temple on april 15th 1955 with wor bro ken wagg as master the lodge room was formally dedicated by rt wor bro donald j gunn on may 30th 3955 among the oldest living mem bers of the lodge are bro ches ter cook of detroit initiated in 1901 wor bro k s barker wor bro sam armstrong bro howard malloy bro frank rac who has been a member of the sick and relief committee for over thirty years v wor bro k r davis was dismissed in high court last week the appeal one of several launched by the former chief was an ap peal from the order of mr jus tice stewart which dismissed with costs mr edwards appli cation to quash the order of county judge forsyth resulting in his dismissal from ihe stouff ville force the latest appeal was heard before justices aylesworth mackay and lebel r x starr qc appeared on behalf of mr edwards and p a lee respond ed the appeal was dismissed with costs the regular meetings of both stouffville and whitchurch cou ncils will be held this coming thursday evening oct 0th wilcox lake ratepayers vote against proposed water system breakins at coop thieves entered the stouff ville coop store in stouffville both sunday and monday even ings but left practically empty handed on sunday assessment roil for this year shows an increase and population figures are up as well but the gains are smaller than have been experienced in popu- week stood at 3100 which is an in crease of 172 over empij homes in richmond hill aurora and newmarket running into the hundreds in present home fifty years ago an enjoyable evening was spent at the home of mr and mrs daniel wagg goodwood ontario on their life in or around goodwood they have been faithful members and workers in the gooinvood baptist church and sunday school for many years they have one son lloyd of brampton and one daughter grace mrs ronald james of markham out of town guests were pres ent from brampton toronto dundas agincourt west hill uxbridge and stouffville eleven persons injured in crash at ringwood eleven persons four of them from stouffville were injured on sunday in a two car crash at ringwoods nightmare corner the intersection of hjgbwavs 17 and 4s charles vanzant mrs van- zant and daughter catherine were passengers in a westbound car driven by ray fleurv of church st stouffville mrs ray floury was also a passen ger colliding with the fleurv car was a northbound vehicle with seven occupants all of whom were taken to hospital injured in the toronto car were mr and mrs angelo raeippo sons joe and peter an aunt and uncle mr and mrs john de- mareo and their son john mr vanzant is in newmarket hospital having suffered a crushed chest and other internal injuries mrs vanzant and her daughter s u s t a i n e d broken bones and mr floury received a severe head cut but returned home to stouffville after treat mem the accident occurred about 3 pm on sunday afternoon when traffic was extremely heavy at this intersection both cars were badly damaged the floury car being thrown to the northwest corner no doubt be dropped for the time being those op posed have voiced the opinion that while they are not opposed to having water the already high tax for education make- it difficult for ratepayers to defendant was charged by markham tup police with failing to stop at an intersec tion the solicitor argued thai the summons was incomplete magistrate barron agreed that the charge had been improperly laid he dismissed the case ud cap brings arrest the theft of two hub caps from a car in unionville brought the quick arrest of two teen agers on friday morning mark ham township police received the
