pas 14 the tooh7h1 tribune tiarafcy jue 16 1960 hospital commission educates to overcome problems the ontario hospital services commission has launched a pub lic education program to help insured residents avoid difficul ties when they or their depend ants are admitted to hospital as could be expected the launch ing of a program as large as ont hospital insurance raised a number of problems for both the commission and the people of ontario most of these were the natural result of the plan being new and its provisions and requirements not being clearly understood by the peo ple in the early months of 1959 the commission was besieged by avalanches of correspond ence and telephone calls for in formation it is estimated that during the spring of 1959 there wasnt a day when there werent at least 10000 letters on hand to be answered however these early problems have been over come but a few others remain and these are being energetic ally dealt with vp to individuals one of the most usual prob jems is that some insured peo ple still arrive at the hospital for admission without their hos pital insurance certificate or at least their certificate number to identify them others do not take the proper action to keep insured wiien they get married or leave insured groups also many parents still do not real ize that they should arrange for separate premiums to be paid for their children as soon as they reach age 19 these are things that must bs taken care of by the insured persons them selves much has been done through the distribution of literature to educate the public on the action they should take in varying cir cumstances to keep insured and it is hoped that the current edu cational program will help to speed public understanding of the plan the soooo insured patients who received the benefits of on tario hospital insurance in ev ery month of 1939 would be enough to completelv fill the canadian national exhibition grandstand more than 3 times- scratch pads
