overhead tele phone cable now running thro ugh the main streets of down town stouffville will disappear over the next two years v c barnes local manager of the bell telephone company an nounced this week it will be rerouted along the rear of property when the com pany increases cable facilities in the district in preparation for the anticipated introduction of dial telephones in stouffville in 19g2 the area affected extends to the towns north and south limits from just east of the 10th line to west lawn boulevard mr barnes explained that the bell is anxious to avoid trim ming the trees along stouff- villes streets and this would be necessary if cable facilities were increased along existing pole lines for this reason the bell in tends rerouting much of its cable and company employees will soon approach property owners along whose property lines the bell either wishes to bury new hle or erect new poles about so percent of existing cable will either be buried or rerouted said mr barnes we plan to visit all householders who will be affected he added and explain exactly what we wish to do we hope that with their coopera on increased ca ble facilities will be installed to handle the larger number of telephone calls which always follow the voduction of dial facilities and direct distance di aling some 52000 feet of new cable will be either buried or rerouted mr barnes explained that with the introduction of direct distance dialing customers in both gormley and stouffville will be able to dial some 50 million long distance numbers in canada and the united cemetery miss stella cook passed away in newmarket in her 77th year she was born in lemonville in 1ss3 the daughter of the late mr and mrs hamilton cook the permanent fate of the old goodwood station has been seal ed last week workmen and demolition crews commenced to pull down the frame structure and by wednesday the inter ior and front of the building had been removed the decision to remove the station from the ninety-year- old site has ended a lengthy de bate between the township of uxbridge the cnr and the board of transport commis sioners in march 1959 the railroad refused to alter its dropout at pickering district high school criticized by ratepayer says students told to quit the operation of the picker ing district high school was ex posed to sharp criticism by mr s ostcrhout a south pickering raepayer at a special meeting of township council on monday night he suggested that the dis satisfaction was rather wide spread he contended that the entire organization should be changed in order that the board members coum stand for elec tion ne spokesman pointed out that the pickering school had a failure rating of over 60 per cent he noted that the student dropout each year was sizeable they have even been told to quit he said the ratepayer ad mitted that he had not brought the matter to the attention of the board reeve sherman scott agreed that there had been some prev ious suggestions that the whole pickering high school organi zation should be altered he said the town of ajax wished to-with- draw from the area and set up their own board of education i feel that many school sections in the township would not wish to lose their autonomy sug gested the reeve mr ostcrhout pointed out that he was not concerned with the operation of individual pub lic school boards but only in the high school area i have brought the problem to the attention of the board chairman said reeve scott he fiuggested that any ratepayer was privileged to take similar action i can
