church will be officially dedi cated on sunday feb 14th the project which cost an estimated 533000 was com pleted by the betz construc tion co of stouffville three services will be conducted on sunday feb 7th a new era was begun in the life of the markham united missionary church when the congregation met in their newly renovated and enlarged church for the past years the edifice which stood as a landmark on the main street in north markham serv ed the congregation reasonably well but with the recent influx of people into the community and an enlarged attendance at the church the old building be came entirely inadequate the church was erected in 1877 with a real desire to have a place of worship capable of meeting the needs of the com munity the congregation set about to plan and prepare for enlarged facilities approximate ly two years ago a building fund was started and a building committee appointed with the passing of the months much work and thought went into the project to bring it to readiness for dedication and usefulness the old church building was a red brick unit 30 x 50 in size the unit has been enlarged by adding an extra 30 by 50 in an l shape extending to the east and north the east wall has been removed and the audi torium lengthened the l to the north provides accommodation for sunday school classes and pastors study an additional wing 12 x 18 was built to the northwest to provide cloakroom and washroom space the front entrance has been redesigned and the gallery carried forward beneath the enlarged gallery there is adequate hall space and a nursery the interior walls are finished in plywood panelling four feet in height and the balance if painted a pastel shade of green the ceiling is acoustic tile the new furnishings blend in with the natural finished plywood and the centre aisle and plat form which is completely cov ered with broadloom adds a quiet dignity to the sanctuary the services of dedication will be conducted by the pastor rev c e
