intensive 2week summer school at lawrence park collegiate i toronto the course which end- j ed july 10 was the fifth consec- i utive summer school sponsored by the ont secondary school i teachers federation for its members in age the teachers ran from 25 50 they voluntarily switch ed roles to become students again in order to improve their professional qualifications the course is part of the yearround program of professional devel opment sponsored by the feder ation living expenses plus a i fee are paid by the teachers themselves about half the teachers at tending the course had had ex perience in the subjects they were taking but wished to broa den their knowledge the re mainder were taking the sub jects for the first time approxi mately twothirds expect to teach their subjects in the next school term the summer school has been a success from its initiation this year there were 125 more teachers attending than in 1958 and the curriculum was ex panded by five subjects to a to tal of eleven the course com menced in 1955 with only two subjects being offered director of the course was harold w hill head of the ma thematics department at jarvis collegiate institute toronto mr with draped neck line and floating panel back gathered bodice and full skirt her hat was a bandeau of small white flowers over white vel vet she carried a cascade of yellow roses and white mums mr charles bud thomas brother of the bride was best man ushers were mr william fraser and mr donald jack son the reception was held at the masonic hall in stouffville the brides mother received wearing a light blue twopiece dress of lace over silk taffeta and white accessories her cor sage consisted of red roses the grooms mother assisted in a white mauve lilac dress of sheer nylon with floating back panels and white accessories and a corsage of yellow mums the bride and groom left for a short honeymoon with the bride wearing a bolero jacket dress of beige combed cotton with bateau neckline and match ing lace commerbund her ac cessories were pale blue and her corsage pink sweetheart roses mr and mrs ross will re side at their home at vivian mr and mrs james pidgeon of st petersburg florida were sunday visitors with wm r hall at springhurst farm miss nancy trover goshen indiana visited last week at the i home of mr and mrs j wiue- man gormley sie also visited j at the evangelical mission stou- ffville where she worked for tile past two summers the stouffville fire brigade was summoned to the hoover machine shop wednesday eve- j ning of last week when an out break occurred in 2 oil drums the blaze was extinguished with little damage being caused ok markham sewers markham village has been given the green light to proceed with a municipal sewerage sys tem after deliberations which have continued for several years the contract is to be handled by the ontario water resources commission and the cost will be paid by the town at six and a third percent over a period of thirty years visit europe mrs frank bramham and son mark and mr and mrs wm garrett will sail on the ss saxonia from montreal on july 24th landing at southampton mr bramham will accompany them to montreal during their eight week stay in england and europe the local group will visit the grave of private chas davis a member of the 48th highlanders and brotlier of mrs garrett he was killed in action in 1915 in the battle of st jujien his plot is located in the military cemetery at bolougne france mr garrett has not seen his sister mrs a johnson of middlesex for fifty years nor the eaton family his maternal relatives mrs gar rett came to canada from eng land at the early age of six years she plans to visit her family homestead at epping forest near london it is close to the residence of elder states man and mrs dick lea and family at their cottage at craigleith on georgian bay visiting with mr and mrs john brubacker over the week end were mr and mrs harold rogers and their son wesley rogers and his wife and family from brandon manitoba mrs a grubin is visiting fort william for a holiday and will also visit with mrs l b davy in port arthur mr and mrs ivan barker and family from uxbridge are new tenants in howard forgie apt main street the huff family have moved to the resi dence of her mother mrs mur ray forgie church street mrs len buckland was the lucky winner of two beautiful table lamps 70stitch gash on his left hand last week when he fell on top of a buzz saw while cutt ing wood in the cellar of his home although it was thought for a time that he might lose one finger the injury is
