sunday of the official opening of water safety week newsmen photographers both newspaper and tv were on hand to film some of the doings there were complete demon strations of rescue operations for over the weekend the cars were lined up on both sides of the road and the whiteskin ned berrypickers were down on their knees by the dozens by 3 oclock saturday the patch was picked clean of the first and relatives sorry to report mrs bob mil- roy had a fall and broke her hip we hope it will mend fast the june meeting of the w ms was held at the home of mrs maurice hamm with 25 members and 3 guests present the reading on citizenship tak en by mrs garnet beare was from the may observer and en titled voice from city hall by jean newman mrs archie lit tle took over the meeting with christian stewardship assisted by mrs les beare mrs frank sewell mrs j walton mrs c whittaker and mrs w butcher quiet music preceded the wor ship period ably taken by mrs m ryan and mrs hamlll read the scripture at the close of the meeting the members pack ed bales and would like to thank all who contributed to the bales so generously helping to make them so successful a venture mrs whittakers group served a delicious lunch mnrkhom rural school boards amalgamating a deputation of the school trustees of the markham mem bers for school area board no 1 of which roy bick is chair man attended markham council monday the other board members were from school section no 2 of which geo williams is chair man he was accompanied by harold stafford and roy toole the meeting was requested by council in order that a decision could be reached as to the de sirability of amalgamating the two boards into school area no 1 or whether they wished to continue to operate as separate units after a meeting with council the members retired for half an hour on their return they ad vised council that all attending agreed that union was the best solution clerk crisp will have a by law ready for next monday this is the deadline as it re quires to be passed prior to july 1st to be effective on jan 1st 1960 a new board will be elect ed in december the trustees from union ss no 4 of which nelson eoynton is chairman also attended the meeting he was accompanied by harold morton a trustee and members of school section no 4 of which h bete is chairman he was accompanied by robert campbell and s neno they attended to discuss the amalgamation of the two sec tions into one section but not an area board the members of both boards wished to remain a separate identity but the inspector had advised that the remaining area and attendance of union no 4 was not ample to form a section it was therefore decided that union was the solution a bylaw will be drawn for presentation to council next monday which requires to be passed by july 1st in answer to a question as to the future trustees council ad vised that an election would be held in dec for members for 1960 mr bete said he hoped the electors took cups 3k lbs sugar h cup strained lemon juice i bottle ccrto fruit pectin to prepare juice crush thorough ly about 24 quarts fully ripe berries place in jelly cloth or bag and squeeze out juice measure
