the stouffvflju trisune tkrduy itaury 29 1959 tv it undebagk oe undertrained our selected team of peewee au stars is not faring well his winter it appears that they are no match for their opposition whether on foreign ice or in their home arena rival clubs have racked up onesided wins in almost every contest this has been the case at newmarket unionville and uxbridge although such setbacks have possibly been more noticeable this winter it is not any new occurrence by any meins are our peewee lads lacking in hockey ability and train ing something is seriously wrong when towns of comparable size continue to snow under our local boys i honestly believe that our peewees are competing out of their class i do not wish to reflect any unsportsmanlike in sinuation on the managements of rival minor hockey organi zations but i do believe that stouffville coaches should de- mand a hard and fast age classification before they agree to accept or invite competition in this area i am convinced that stouffville peewee players are get ting a raw deal last winter i took a peewee entry to newmarket this- tourney was well organized not a single player was permitted to don a uniform unless he had proper proof of age true our team lost but the score was 10 not 110 as has been the case this year no one minds taking a loss but it is rather disheartening when a team repeatedly finds itself on the losing end of a double figure score perhaps we are at fault perhaps we should be using older boys if everything is fair and square then i feel that something is seriously wrong with our peewee training programme i would like to know where the fault lies may have last laugh the forthcoming benefit game between our intermediate clippers and the world champion whitby dunlops has re ceived considerable mirthful comment from local hockey observers although admission tickets are selling like hot cakes the majority feel that there is little comparison between the two teams the dunnles have won every championship in the bok while the clippers are finding the int b road a pretty rough trail dont be surprised if the local squad plays the role of jack the giant killer the pressure will be on whitby they are the champions they are the drawing card they are the club that is expected to give jack watsons boys a real hockey issson you may be sure that stouffville will be out to upset wren blairs applecart according to coach watson the local roster is anxious to prove its worth against this muchvaunted whitby club you may be sure that for stouffville it will be an allout ef fort to dream for one minute that the clippers can defeat whitby would be stretching ones imagination beyond all bounds i do believe however that if they play up to par they can teach the dunnies a hockey trick or two it should be one of the greatest hockey attractions to hit this district in years a rafterfilled rink would be a sight for sore eyes according to present ticket sales it could be a reality wooden soldier in any competitive sport its regrettable when any mem ber or members of the team simply give up this is what happened to goalie jim hanna of orangeville on tuesday night throughout the final frame and much of the second period he was simply a wooden soldier standing between two steel posts although he blocked a total of fifty shots i would say that clipper forwards hit him with half of these twentysix pucks evaded his statuelike profile in the first period the lanky cageguardian played well he blocked 15 drives whether someone plucked the rabbits foot out of his back pocket prior to the middle frame is not known but he obviously wasnt overly interested in stopping pucks he was the object of considerable criticism by the orangeville management the opposition was completely outclassed in spite of this the forwards never stopped skating and worked hard against overwhelming odds the same could not be said for their goalguardian a continuance of his firstperiod per formance could have made him a hero instead of a laughing stock cord lewis tops community league pointscoring leaders centre star gord lewis took over sole possession of the in
