proceeded on monday with the opening of the tenders for the paving of unionville main st a project which has been under discussion fo many months the original estimate was 65- 000 but this figure was later lowered following certain chan ges in the work to be done the successful bidder was aprile contracting co and their price was s31 78750 top price asked was 4111690 and there were four firms bidding on the work engineers jorgenson chrys ler were in attendance as well as mr fianader of the dept of highways council accepted the aprile bid subject to the appro val of the highways depart ment target range a deputation from the willow rod gun club attended coun cil and requested permission to establish a target range and a conservation area in some low land in the first mile and a quar ter from yonge st as the bylaw does not permit of any firing of guns in that area it would be necessary to amend the bylaw the deputation said the land was low and only some five fam ilies resided in the area these were all related and quite in favor of the project council decided they would in spect the area and were advised to wear rubber boots stricter control asked york county health unit re quested council to give more strict enforcement of the bylaw in regard to dog control in view of the epidemic of rabies council stated that a general inoculation of dogs in the twp would take place in the next week councillor watson stated that it would apply to the dogs with owners but he was interested in those running at large without owners councillor mumberson said he did not think the present dog catcher was available for suffi cient time and he suggested the position be advertised as the police stated they found it diffi cult to contact the present dog catcher either day or night paving
