question is settledreg j myers chairman of the 9 wheat produc ers marketing board advised wheat producers after a board meeting in toronto dont sell too soon and jeopardize your own income and that of other producers by taking too low a price the wheat board is currently striving to reach an agreement with the processors for a mini mum price on no 2 ce or better quality grade early nego tiations were unsuccessful and the matter now rests with the arbitration board many producers have been misled by the announced floor price of s142 per bushel on track set by the stabilization board in ottawa stated mr myers what they do not real ize is that they will receive less than s142 per bushel because the trade may deduct up to 10 cents a bushel for handling charges depending on the con dition of the wheat when sold it is entirely possible then for a producer to receive only s132 per bushel for no 2 ce or better at 14 moisture one of the important features in this question of price has been the 9 cent per bushel levy which the wheat board has been authorized to deduct from all wheat sold for seed or into 1 other commercial channels the board wishes to use the money collected from such a levy for the disposal of surplus wheat and as a stabilization fund for the wheat produced in ontaho the board does not wish to de duct this 9 cents per bushel however if the wheat producer is to receive only s132 for his wheat thus the board has been working towards a price high enough to include the levy and possible handling charges and still return at least a net price of 150 to the producer obviously the processors hoped to make this announced floor price a ceiling price as well mr myers concluded this isnt satisfactory to the producers and so the matter has to be arbitrated until the award price is announced pro ducers should hold onto their wheat the board will make a statement when the award price is announced council recommends a county planning board peel county san helps prevent dampingoff of seedlings as well as control ling black rot bacteria in the seed water core is caused by a lack of boron in the soil it may be prevented by dusting or spray ing when the turnip roots aver age about one inch in diameter using a commercial borax dust or spray for turnips do not use a sprayer that has been used to appiy 24d because turnips are sensitive to 24d and easily damaged in a very dry season a second application of borax one month after the first may be helpful a borax application is not needed on some soils that have sufficient boron but this can only be determined by ex perience further information on the control of turnip diseases is con tained in ontario department of agriculture circular 226 tur nip protection guide it is ob tainable at the observe at least some folks do everything from felt hat day to national ragweed control month most of these observances go un noticed except for the few peo ple who are concerned say with felt hats and ragweeds although we have a lets go fishing week observance this column proposes we short en it down to a lets go fish ing day and use some sort of unforceful but effective method to make everybody participate although fishing popularity increases by leaps and bounds with each new season there are still thousands and thousands of people who consider it a waste of time and something suited most aptly to the slow mentality often as far as productivity is concerned it is a waste of time i have found a day of fishing to be always productive it ac complishes a change in pace and quite often a change in at titude and such is why we would recommend that a fish ing day be made a national holiday in this hurried atmos phere that we live in breathes there no man who does not need a change of pace from time to time hell steadfastly deny it and maintain that hes solid as a rock and sound as a silver dollar but hell grumble about his breakfast and the way his shirt is starched and the growl will become a standard part of his makeup but maybe if we go about it right we can sell the nation on the merits of getting out and doing something in the world outdoors out beyond our steel and concrete jungles the world of nature has something for everyone it is a happy world for those who learn to share it it isnt surprising that the ternr strong silent man is often used it takes
