united church was filled to capacity on sunday morning to celebrate the for tieth anniversary of the ordina tion of the local minister rev douglas davis rev mr davis took as his subject forty years in the ministry and the congregation listened in rapt interest as the minister unfold ed the story of his life since coming to canada from eng land as a young boy the large gathering of between four and five hundred joined heartily in the singing of old familiar hymns how firm a founda tion tell me the old old story and blest be the tie that binds and there was a warm feeling of rededication as a church family the local choir members were attired in their attractive new gowns for which they have been holding numerous events to raise funds choir leader lome boadvvay presented rev mr davis with a stole for his gown on behalf of the congregation and the new gowns were dedicated by the minister the choir render ed two selections and a solo by mr ron mercer mr fred cam pbell expressed the congratula tions of the congregation to rev mr davis on this import ant occasion he said that while mr davis had filled the local pulpit for the long term o seventeen years the ties be tween minister and congrega tion were strong and everyone wished him health and strength to carry on at the conclusion of the service rev mr davis called his eldest son mr ken davis to the pulpit to pronounce the benediction mr davis jr is a prominent worker in the eg- linton ave united church and has assisted his father on sev- eral occasions a number of visitors were among those pres ent from nearby
