the mark ham twp softball league this summer agincourt has with drawn their club from the cir cuit the schedule will open on may 27 stouffville will play their home games on tuesday nights they will have 2 thurs day home contests on june 12 and july 24 an entry fee of 20 must be paid before the first game the league champion will receive s60 and the runnerup will get s40 the semifinals will be a 2 out of 3 series the finals will be 3 out of 5 the home team will supply the plate umpire he will re ceive 500 per game payable before the start of the contest all games will start at 815 pm with an 830 deadline a team will be fined 500 for default the league will be governed by oasa rules the final signing date for players was set for july 1st in case of rain the home team must notify the withdraws from claremont league the peewee peewee bant am and bantam hockey teams were honoured at a banquet sponsored by the stouffville li ons club on monday night coach trace woodward intro duced the members of his cham pion peewee red wings the alf mole memorial trophy was presented to captain ronnie castle by mr lloyd turner coach bud lehman introduced his champion peewee bant am canadiens capt francis haylow received the jim austin trophy it was presented by mr austin messrs fred jemmett and geo beazley presented crests to the boys mr keith sutherland coach of the bantams introduced the members of his club capt war ren hendricks received the vice presidents trophy from mr j austin omha executive merai ber mr don davis chairman of the lions sports committee was master of ceremonies he intro duced all the coaches in stouff- villes minor hockey program including messrs ed dawson lome boadway trace wood ward and jim thomas pee wee don haynes jake har mon lloyd jennings and bud lehman peewee bantam manager bill nicholls and coa ches hal gibson and keith suth erland of the bantams don haynes and lloyd jennings were not present midget coach kick bangay and juvenile coach bob bangay were unable to attend juvenile manager ken wagg was pres ent league secretary mr lloyd turner received special mention for his excellent work in compil ing all peewee records mr turner has done this job for the past three seasons and has miss ed only three games capt francis haylow of the canadiens presented bud leh man with a gift for himself and his new bride chairman don davis praised the work of ref eree glenn byer he was pre sented with a gift by mr albert smalley each member of the bantam finalists will receive crests from the omha mr cec hendricks presented the organized six years ago will not field a club in the group this season they have been accepted into the south ontario loop and will play their home games in brooklin both leagues held organization meetings on thursday night of last week news of mt zions shift was made known to the officials at claremont later in the evening mount zion were represented by grant carson and murray jones it is possible that they may enter the oasa ranks as an intermediate d club or revert back to junior class in the ontario playdowns the ma jority of players in the mount zion lineup are still eligible lor junior competition to date there are only four definite entries in the clare mont group claremont green wood peachs and markham will field teams in the loop al though altona was not repre sented there is still some hope that they may return pine grove may reenter the league definite word is expected this week from their coach mr sherwood catherwood present at thursday nights meeting were messrs les wil son greenwood jack rennie claremont jack warriner peachs and len henderson markham to start may 20th i the opening games of the schedule will commence on tuesday evening may 20th un like last season the contests will be played on monday and thursday nights the manage ment felt that it was difficult to get players out to games on friday evenings mr lawrence norton will be the official um pire behind the plate the um pire will check the eligibility of all players when the pre- game lineups are submitted the official will also decide whe ther the diamond is suitable xor a game two oasa players it was moved by les wilson and seconded by len hender son that each team be permitted to sign two oasa players excluding pitchers a list of 15 players must be handed in by a july 1st deadline last year no oasa players were permitted to participate the two points will be split if teams are deadlocked after seven in nings per game refund the league rejected a plan forwarded by the businessmens association to refund 300 to each team following every game the management contended that last years arrangement where by the refunds were made at the halfway mark in the sched ule and at the end of the sea son was believed most favour able all players will pay the regular 25c admission fee at the gate john little and caroline ogil vy are the senior champions at the stouffville district high school the competitions were run off on wednesday may 7th other champions are as follows intermediate helen gayman and norm hendricks junior faye byer and roger stover john little collected a total of 10 points he headed the field in the 220 yd dash and the 440 yds he placed second in the 100 yds and the hop step and jump john almstead was the runnerup with 9 points he placed first in the discus and shot putt he was second in the mile race and third in the run ning broad jump bob stover and don bruce each chalked up 8 points ron briilinger collect ed six in the intermediate boys class norm hendricks polled a per fect total of 12 points he placed first in four events including the 100 yds 220 yds 440 yds and one mile steve kennedy wasnt far off the pace with a 10 point total he was first in the high jump and the running broad jump gord burkholder was third with nine points roger stover equalled norm hendricks record with 4 firsts in four events entered he topped his class in the 100 yds running broad jump 880 yds and softball throw the run- nersup were allan boyd and murray miller caroline ogilvy collected 3 firsts and one second in the girls senior class she headed the field in the 75 yds standing broad jump and high jump she placed second in the basketball distance throw losing out to margaret curtis there were 7 events in the girls division marg curtis was the senior run nerup with 8 points peggy tran collected seven helen gaymans performance was similar to her senior count erpart she counted three firsts and a second for 11 points to win the intermediate honours presents trophy ronnie castle righo cap tain of the peewee champion red wings was presented with the alf mole memorial trophy at the annual stouff ville lions club hockey night on monday evening mr lloyd turner made the presentation other trophies were presented to francis haylow captain of the peewee i bantams and warren hendricks bantam capt helen bested her rivals in the standing broad jump the high jump and the softball distance throw she was second in the 75 yd dash losing out to nancy hartwick the runnersup were as follows nancy hartwick 9 pts muriel loveless 8 pts and joan little 6 pts faye byer was the junior champion she racked up a total of 9 points dianne nelson jan et hathaway pauline dowey and betty swain followed in that order the last two crowned at the stouffville dis trict high school field meet held on wednesday afternoon of last week tops in their individual classes were left to right faye byer junior helen gayman int and caroline ogilvy sr their names are inscribed on indi vidual trophies and on a large bronze plaque which remains in the school the official pre sentations will take place at- the annual commencement exercises in the fall ken dean sr champ at pickering hs field day ken dean of claremont is the uxbridge high school was the new senior champion of picker ing dist high school he chalk ed up 4 firsts and 1 second in the annual track and field com petitions on wednesday may 7 he led his class in the 100 yds 220 yds 440 yds and broad jump he was a runnerup in the hop step and jump in the 100 yd dash he cut 3 seconds off the old record set in 1956 he sprinted the distance in 107 seconds in addition he tied a previous record for the 220 yds he completed the distance in 246 seconds roger lappin was the runnerup in the senior di vision he topped the field in the shot putt and hop step and jump paul munroe retained the in termediate honours he won last year he chalked up five firsts john webster placed second munroe set a dazzling pace in each event entered he set four records in the 220 yds 440 yds broad jump and hop step and jump he clipped one inch off his previous record in the hop step and jump in the junior boys class geo wilson recaptured the cham pionship he won in 57 he like munroe was a winner in five events p udall was the runnerup bob wood set the pace in the bantam division to win the ban tam championship al dawson placed second wood chalked up four firsts and one second der ek arbuckle formerly of clare mont and now attending the bantam winner last season the girls championships were won by the following senior lorna jordan intermediate marion kime junior elizabeth erickson and bantam gail white gail white of brougham chalked up a fine record of three firsts and one second in four events lorna jordan plac ed first in the 100 and 75 yd dash and tied for first in the high jump eleven records were broken and one was equalled in the rec ently completed
