council farm manager archie j ritchie was congratulated on the years record at the beginning of the year agricultural representative wl jji cockburn vvas approached j regarding a farm program he helped plan the spring seeding w l campbell of the soils advisory service branch oac guelph made a survey of the farm he outlined a plan of suitable rotation for the farm j which should provide all the roughage the cattle require ini the past it has been necessary i to purchase a considerable am- j ount of hay mr campbell recj ommended tile draining of the j farm in several locations engi week end in this neck of the woods the christmas carnival held last saturday was a terrific suc cess everyone cooperated beau tifully and especially mrs mc nelly and mrs gloria forfar deserve a hearty vote of thanks for a job well done their hard work and that of the rest of the committee made this years carnival the biggest and best yet the door prize a big bushel basket of groceries was won by wonderful time they came early and stayed late which is a sign that tilings are going well the brownies did well too they had a very attractive counter and sold out of everything the girls looked highway 48 the congregation of ballan trae united had a very pleasant surprise this sunday the phil lips family came among them for a brief visit back home everyone was very happy to see them again even if only for awhile while we are still on the sun day subject the storry children made some sort of a record this year barbara billy and freddy who go to the stouffville chris tian church each topped their class for attendance for the year well done kids and you too mom and dad who have to drive them down each sunday monday was a big day for the cubs their christmas party they had so many good things to eat that in keeping with the spirit of christmas they invit ed the scouts to join them and a really good time was had by all the boys santa wasnt there but hishel- per was and gifts january 29th to 31st with day meetings at the coliseum exhibition park and evening meetings at the king edward hotel toronto this years convention will have as its general theme fu turama of agriculture and those in attendance will hear and see the latest in agricul tural developments of special interest again this year will be the agricultural outlook for 1958 presented by w p watson ontario live stock commissioner in addition to sessions on gen eral farm and crop subjects there will be meetings for those interested in such special crops as potatoes registered seed tur nips and forage and several films will be shown to illustrate various topics this annual event is made possible by the willingness of several practical farmers to share their methods and exper ience and by
