wellknown exreeve of scarbor ough twp appeared before stouffville planning board on thursday evening at the boards invitation to discuss the prob lem of promoting industrial de velopment in stouffville mr crockford who has shown himself to be an expert in mat ters of promotion and has been engaged to assist a number of municipalities in their develop ment expressed the view that stouffville was excellently sit uated to receive industry and should take immediate steps to publicize its name through var ious trade channels he said that if appeared that the municipality was in need of acquiring additional land for in- dustrial purposes but that some steps could be taken in the mean time to induce industry to locate on the few parcels of industrial land which remained in town mr crockford reviewed some of his experiences in the town ship of scarborough which re sulted in this municipality be coming one of the most indus trialized sections of the contin ent he said that no special in ducements were necessary if the industry was of the right calibre but on the other hand in dustry was not to be hoodwink ed into paying through the nose for land mr crockford spent several hours with the local board and after further study of the local situation he will be in contact with the board m burk returned as deputy in small poll with only about thirtyfive percent of the elector ate turning out to the polls on monday milton burk retained the deputyreeveship in stouffville for a third term mr burk who has seen five years on the local council polled the heaviest vote in his home poll where he piled up a lead of eightynine votes the westend poll went to ken iaushway by the slim majority of two and the centre south by five votes however mr burk held his lead in the centre north winning this poll so to 75 little interest was shown in the election due to the fact that there was only a contest for deputyreeve and resulted in one of the smallest turnouts in some hewlett nancy harwood and helen nigh principal w e duxbury has attributed the small number of graduates to the attractive salaried jobs which tend to coax students away from school at an early age he noted also that further chan nels of learning existed today for the grade 12 graduate which were not available a few years ago teen town planned plans are in the formulative stage for a teen town organiza tion in stouffville which would provide supervised weekly rec reation for local teenagers the plan has been proposed by mr keith sutherland popular mem ber of stouffvilles public school staff mr sutherland has presented his plan to the public school board this week and received their wholehearted approval mr sutherland has agreed to head up the supervision and would be assisted by several other members of the staff the teen town sessions would be held in the school the report of mr sutherlands proposal is being received enthusiastically by the teenagers themselves and reaction of the parents to the idea is being sought john mcgillivray new reeve of scott township john mcgillivray wellknown resident of glasgow for many years was elected reeve of scott township on monday defeating mr red shaw collected a total of 313 votes 33 more than his closest rival mr norman hogg coun cillor hogg reelected for an other term polled 280 votes a third successful candidate mr charles forsythe counted 245 votes mrs ellen buzek collected 231 votes in placing fourth and mr fred townsend trailed the field with 87 earl dowswell received an acclamation to the reeve- ship robt nesbitt is the new dep reeve also by acclamation mr redshaw drew strong support throughout the entire township he headed three of the seven polls leading the field at glasgow pine grove and webb in addition he polled a
