the an nual school picnic took place at cedar beach park the kids arrived by ten in the morning and were still going strong well into the afternoon several mo thers showed up around lunch time to lend a hand with the eat ing onslaught they are to be thanked for their much needed help the weather could have been better but mr herbert was prepared for all emergen cies if it had rained in the after noon he had a selection of films lined up all went well and the children had themselves a real picnic which after all was the objective for the day on wednesday evening the last social function for this sea son was held for mr herbert and grade 8ers as you know mr herbert is leaving our school and this occasion was a farewell party for him his class arranged a very original pro gramme for the evening helen maclean acted as mistress of ceremonies and most of the class took part in the four num bers presented the hit of the show was a fashion parade that was out of this world it was a lot of fun both for the kids and the audience the show was just one more proof that ss 11 is loaded with talented boys and girls after the programme mr herbert presented a school pin to mrs j paterson it was a thankyou from home school for all her help over the last two years and a gentle reminder for her not to forget home mrs wylie then presented mr herbert with his gift from the home school mrs wylie thanked him for all his coopera tion and support and for the many ways he helped to make the home and school a greater success the guest speaker for the evening was col o s hol- linrake the col congratulated mr herbert and the grade 8 class then stressed the need of more support by the parents in the community to provide rec reational activities for the chil dren he said he hoped the time
