away very suddenly a few days previous at her late home in her 78th year her hus band suffered a couple of severe heart attacks as a result and is not expected to recover he is a brother of mrs cabins and the two ran off county seed judging test creates interest ciaremont man wins potato championship film festival next saturday the annual film festival which is sponsored by the on tario york counties film council is being held this year in whitevale united church whitevale next saturday even ing march 30th beginning at 8 pm everyone interested in films is invited and although the festi val films are specially chosen to appeal to the adults children also are permitted to attend if accompanied by adults the whitevale film club and mr and mrs j c yv irwin have kindly offered to act as host to the annual film festival the toronto and district film coun cil are planning to attend as our guests so the film council hopes that every person in the district who has ever shown an interest in film programmes will attend and help to make the toronto and district film council mem bers welcome a short social period will fol low the film programme at which local members and their friends will have an opportunity of meeting the toronto folk and will afford us a chance to return the hospitality which they extended to our group a few weeks ago when we visited their council as is usual a collection will be taken to help defray the cost of the hall rental and other in cidentals such as transportation of films mailing meeting notices to members etc c keevil ciaremont who enjoys seed judging that can best be answered by a look at the ontario county seed j judging competition which was held recently in the uxbridge high school when some 30 jun- iors from the county showed their ability to judge grains j and seeds and to give reasons for their placings as well as to identify legumes grasses and weeds the competition was keen as the competitors strove for the high honors and tro phies which were offered the winner in the junior sec tion in which 19 contestants competed was neil taylor pef ferlaw rr 1 with a score of 619 out of a possible 690 and thus won the russell morrison trophy donated by russell mor rison beaverton roger snod- den pefferlaw rr 1 gave neil a close run with a score of 616 senior champion winning over the eight com- petitbrs in the senior section was bruce yake uxbridge rr1 with a score of 620 he thus won the senior championship prize of 10 towards a winter short course oac guelph donated by the ontario county soil and crop improvement association when ron neale whitby rr 1 tallied up a score of 632 he proved to be the top judge not only in the open section but also in the whole competition thus he won the open class tro phy competition for the junior farmer interclub trophy and the interhigh school trophy was very keen the junior far mer trophy was won by the brooklin junior farmers with a score of 1837 the team mem bers were ron neale whitby rr 1 aubrey carson ciare mont and bob holliday colum bus rr 1 runnerup was the uxbridge junior farmer team the uxbridge high school team of bruce yake uxbridge rr 1 neil taylor pefferlaw rr 1 and roger snodden pef- ferlaw won the interhigh school trophy the team was coached by robt rattray the other high schools to compete were pickering district high school port perry high school and the brock district high school the competition was under the direction of the agricultural representative h l fair and sidney macdonald who was assisted by leroy brown agri cultural rep brooklin brought honors to themselves and to ontario county when they won the potato and oat championship awards respect ively at the central ontario spring show which was held in the memorial centre peterbor ough this week albert hockley ciaremont won the potato cham pionship on a bushel lot of green mountain potatoes and heber down brooklin won the oat championship on a sample of rodney oats several farmers fromontario county exhibited at one of the largest seed shows which the central ontario spring show has ever had this show draws entries from frontenac county on the cast to ontario county on the west the scott 4h potato club was squeezed out of 1st place by the potato club from hastings county which also won the 4h club award ontario county winners potato campionship award-
