home school association held in the junior room at ss no 7 markham monday evening march 11th to introduce her subject miss quigley had a film shown on accident prevention relating to the home school business and play following this she gave some very interesting poin ters on what to do in case of an accident a few of the more important ones follow 1 in case of a cut bathe with green soap and water or use plain alcohol instead of iodine or mercurochrome the later two tend to obscure the type of wound and could cause burns if old 2 in case of burns use a moist dressing using baking soda or salt always cover a burn as air causes intense pain if serious call a doctor immed iately 3 treat shock by keeping pa tient warm symptoms of shock pale listless sick to stomach may denote concussion lay pa tient on side with head lowered never let head fall back 4 foreign bodies in nose throat or eyes always have doctor remove 5 in case of bleeding use pressure by bandaging and keep adding additional dressing until doctor comes do not remove original bandage as this could cause more bleeding a note to parents that is of very real importance if they have not already had their im munization shots they may re ceive tetanus toxoid from their family doctor the general discussion period that followed amply illustrated the interest the parents took in this talk mr frank donnelly also showed two very interesting films motor mania a hilar ious cartoon type on the aver age driver funny but very true too this was followed by shin ing mountains a beautiful scenic trip through banff and the surrounding lakes the evening closed with really delicious refreshments served by mothers of grade 6 with mrs george kelly grade mo ther and mrs lewis heise as sisting mr melvin hill responsible for damage done to the property of endean nurseries by deer it was re ported deer had damaged the endean property to the extent of 18000 the letter stated the endean firm could use any means at its disposal to drive away the deer but they could not kill them council expressed dissatisfac tion with the letter and instruct ed the clerk to confer further with the departmental officials a report will also be secured from township game warden e harper at councils regular meeting this week it was reported that the game warden had been un successful in trying to chase the deer with the use of dogs reeve w l clarke suggested the problem could be solved by a twoday hunt with shotguns although there was some oppo sition to this in the township its possible we may have to do something like that he de clared why cant the department of games fisheries go in and shoot them like they do beav ers asked councillor mrs kathleen james i guess beavers are easier to catch quipped reeve clark j d lucas council solicitor said township authorities had no right to shoot the deer the only thing to do is to write to the department of game and fisheries saying citizens are complaining council doubleheader on thursday eve- j ning mr bill mulholland a former netminder here and now resid ing in warkworth ont officiat ed at the havelockstouffville juvenile game on tuesday night of last week jack watson coach of the local juvenile club suffered a threestitch cut in his leg dur ing a recent practice session at the arena this week tain a licence from township authorities before he could leg ally hunt in the area this prob lem might be solved the township however could be empowered by the depart ment of lands forests to issue licences only for pheas ants rabbits and fox dr clarke pointed out he felt this meant the problem of the careless or malicious hunter could not be that everyone present was in favor of a controlled hunting area i think when you go back tothe department you should to the department you should dr clarke the department thinks w are not entitled to a restricted area summed up reeve hall well have to see whether we can convince them otherwise councillor robert ncsbitt said solved by allowing the township after the meeting the question to set up a controlled preserve would almost certainly be lots of people will still hunt raised at the next uxbridge legally
