in girls club work with splendid results and the daughters of the community have brought home many prizes in the homemaking arts when in competition launching into a wider field gifts have been made to the childrens aid society overseas relief the ontario hospitals for the insane the canadian cancer society and during the war members worked for the red cross and assembled many ditty bags the buttonville wi hall stands in the community as a monument to the constant effort of these women this building which today boasts a brick ex terior oil heating modern kit chen and toilet facilities a stage and seating capacity of more than 200 plus a pleasing decor was built from funds earned at strawberry festivals presenting plays catering for banquets etc and represents many hours of service on introduced by past president lion andy williams and a vote of thanks was extended by past president lion harold spofford the funeral was conducted from oneills funeral chapel on tuesday afternoon for mrs john w ward who passed away at her home in the westend of town on saturday feb 23rd deceased suffered a stroke sev eral years ago and has been in poor health since that time her maiden name was margaret annie young the couple came from the west eight years ago and resided for a time on tenth street before moving to their present home the couple have been associated with the angli can church besides her hus band mrs ward is survived by one son geoffrey of toronto she was in her 73rd year inter ment was made in the stouff ville cemetery united missionary wms on wednesday feb 13 the womens missionary society of the stouffville united mission ary church met at the home of mrs harry stover for its monthly meeting mrs r stou- ffer had charge of the service the speaker of the evening was mrs fred kreick whose hus band is the ontario director of the canadian sunday school mission and who herself is actively engaged in the work of that organization she gave an interesting account also showed pictures of the work of the mission in northern and east ern ontario where summer camps and daily vacation bible schools are held each summer for children many of whom ha no other contact with the christian religion she told of faithful workers who are giv ing full time service to work amongst the schools and sun day schools in the northland many opportunities are open and more workers prayer and support are greatly needed in this work miss eleanor moyer of dickson hill has been a wor ker with the cssm north of port arthur for a number of years mrs delos brown rendered a message in song and the meet ing was brought to a close with a missionary offering and prayer for the progress of the gospel of jesus christ in the many needy fields of the world an announcement was made that march 7 is to be held as a day of fasting and prayer for mis sions in the different womens missionary societies of the church spent on saturday feb 23rd at the home of mr and mrs aud rey bartholomew when mr and mrs clarence bunker and fam ily of goodwood mr and mrs jas morrison and donald of si- loam mr allan bartholomew of newmarket mr and mrs geo bartholomew of stouffville and mr and mrs herb bartholomew of toronto gathered to see a threehour show of coloured mo tion pictures taken by mr and mrs gordon bartholomew and i their son bruce of oakville while on their recent 4500 mile months tour of florida and key west in florida they called on some old friends from the local community mrs lillian pitman 1239 nw 2th street miami and mrs baker of tam pa formerly miss margaret spofford both send their greet ings and best wishes to all their friends on sunday feb 17 the united missionary sunday school in stouffville was privileged to have mr and mrs allan doner and little son dale of gormley as guests for the quarterly mis sionary program mr and mrs doner have just recently re turned from nigeria west af rica where they have spent over three years in missionary work mrs doner took the ss scholars on a word trip from montreal to england then to kario and from there to ilorin nigeria their home in africa she introduced the girls and boys to dorcas and joshua chil dren of the african native pas tor in ilorin mr doner gave an interesting account of an afri can young man named sam best wishes are extended to the doners for a happy and profit- able furlough before returning-
