meeting of pick ering township council on mon day evening the members dis cussed at some length the pre paring of the 1957 budget which will be finalized this month councillor sid pugh felt that there would be an increase in police fire and school costs but believed there would be a drop in the relief rate it was pointed out by the clerk that an increase in assessment would bring in an additional s24000 in taxes this year reeve w g lawson stated that he felt it would be possible to keep the townships road budget on a level with the 75 mill rate of 1956 the road appropriation last year was 588000 but an additional 20000 was later needed bringing the total expenditure to 108000 a purchase of culverts in 1956 was partly responsible for the increase clerk l t johnston pointed out that a 75 mill rate in 1957 would raise approximately 93- 000 reeve lawson stated that in the future he would like to see the municipality stick to the budget he said that a monthly check on each departments
