put w the stourtvtui tribune tharklty february 14 1937 clippers whip hill 92 to complete home schedule all absent tie fifth annual omha church service was held in the wick presbyterian church on sunday afternoon much to the disappointment of mr jim austin aa executive member with the ontario minor hockey association not a single player coach or manager from this town was in attendance it goes without tayin that stouffville was noticeable by its absence in past years minor hockey payes from other districts have found lime to come here but we apparently couldnt return the favour this annual service is a fine idea one that should he con tinued it is organized however for the players in our minor hockey leagues and unless they give it their support it certainly will not last boys in our peewee bantam midget and juvenile clubs should know and understand that there is more to this game of hockey than scoring goals and winning championships how we stand our local hockey clubs have commenced or are ready to start their doordie playoff series how are our chances for an ontario championship this year well if the seasons play is our only basis for future predictions i would say that our juvenile club is our onlv hope the intermediates should win their initial round against richmond hill although in schedule competition they split winning two and dropping a pair aurora will be our big stumbling block and after watching them sift through our defences back on thurs jan 31st the outlook is far from rosy although our local convener mr ab hulse stated earlier in the season that stouffville would be boosted into b class if they looked too strong he has said since that aurora although they will finish at least six points ahead of secondplace beeton will be allowed to remain in c as i said before the juveniles are our best hope they had little trouble eliminating ixbridge in the group finals and row await their first opposition in the ontario playdowns it is expected that fenelon falls will provide that opposition the midrets are a big question mark they are a hot and cold club when hot they are a smoothpassing unit that is a pleasure to watch when cold they lapse into living images of slow motion that could provide their rivals with a goalscoring field day they have knocked off sutton in two straight and now meet beeton in a home and home series coach bill lennox says his team can oust the beeton bovs if they play the type of hockey they are capable of playing last but by no means least we have the bantams they have to date been the surprise team of the local hockey organization believed to be the weakest link in the chain early in the season they have come along well and are still in the thick of the playoff batte a win on thursday night will give them the group championship and the right to continue on into furter playoff competition the stouffville clippers chalk ed up a decisive 9 2 victory over richmond hill on thursday night to wind up their home stand of the current irtermed- hate c schedule the remain- ling clubs will complete sched uled contests by feb 19th the onesided victory sewed up the number three position in the the county they were told by mr stiver that the hospital expected to break even in 1957 certain bed rates have been in creased with the hospital being graded from a c to b hospital he explained my municipality does not benefit in any way from york county hospital said reeve fred armstrong of woodbridge chairman of the finance com mittee it is just three years since the county gave 5300000 i cant approve this additional grant the percentage of patients from markham township who used the hospital last year was greater than from the town of aurora replied mr stiver i agree with mr armstrong said reeve joseph fry of mark ham village i cant go back to my taxpayers and ask them to support a hospital they never use if a business does not pay there is rorm for some adjust ment added mr armstrong everyone who uses the hos pital pays and if he doesnt the municipality pays for him it is generally accepted as a true principle that hospitals are not supposed to be operated at a profit replied mr stiver sickness is an unfortunate thing sick people can only af ford to pay a certain amount just compare what a hospital provides in a private room with the rates charged by a hotel we provide heat food bedding service plus the administrative work involved and our maxi mum figure for a private room at york county hospital is 12 it is impossible for a hospital to carry itself on the operating cost he added we must remember that at one time we in the county con tributed to all the metropolitan hospitals said deputy reeve donald deacon of markham township the residents of the southern section of the county may not use the hospital at newmarket but they should support the county hospital i feel the county as a whole is the logical source of funds for relief of this maintenance defi cit he said at one time each municipal ity was approached to bear its proportionate share of the main tenance expenses added dep uty reeve walter rate of east gwillimbury township i support that idea said reeve elmer daniels of stouff ville otherwise i must agree with mr armstrong we have a hospital in stouffville it would not be fair for us to ask it to help support another hospital he argued reeve edward wrightman of newmarket assured mr stiver that he would support the hos pital boards request before the finance committee dep reeve violet macnaughton of new market
