committee a request that a consultative committee be named to investi gate the possibility of vaughan and markham townships form ing separate boards of educa tion was refused by york coun ty council last week the re quest was made by reeve alf lemasurier and deputy reeve w l clark of markham town ship mr lemasurier explained that the recommendation for such a committee had come from the public school inspector who ad vised that the consultative com mittee consist of the inspector one person to be appointed by the minister of education and three others to be named by york county council we need the committee to investigate the educational sit uation in our townships mr lemasurier said we have the condition where in my opinion the costs in one public school area are completely out of line deputy reeve a h ruther ford of vaughan township told county council that vaughan council had received a copy of this resolution from markham it was discussed but since we felt that we didnt have enough information we did not make a recommendation he said i cant support a resolution proposed by one municipality which mentions another in which it does not concur said deputy reeve kenneth tomlin of richmond hill ships to decide whether it would be advisable for each to have its own board of education thats all the resolution requests he explained it would be wrong for us to support a resolution which names two municipalities but only has the support of the one added reeve edward wright- man of newmarket i agree with mr tomlin that the two municipalities concerned must get together first and reach an agreement the resolution was lost goodwood township of whitchurch nominations the nomination of candidates for the offices of reeve deputyreeve and three councillors to com pose the charge of it wishes to thank in markham and vaughan town- everyone who helped in any- municipality is in favor of the consultative committee it should name markham township and not markham and vaughan we cant adopt this resolution un less it has the complete support of both municipalities he add ed i cant agree with it mr rutherford replied when vau ghan council did not support it no decision was reached on this resolution he explained this is not a recommenda tion made by markham town ship said mr lemasurier this suggestion came from the public school inspector perhaps because of the selfish interest of one municipality it has not approved it this wasnt a selfish act replied mr rutherford it was just that vaughan hasnt dis cussed the matter this is not something the townships should go into at this point argued mr lemasu rier it should be a neutral committee that investigates the situation and makes its recom- girards fina service highway no 47 rlngwood ont now open 24 hours a day
