wall collapses on man at mussel mans lake ore of our senior citizens mr fred coultice had a very ser ious accident last wednesday mr coultice and sons john and jim were making repairs to the barn when a cement wall col lapsed and fell on mr coultice breaking both his legs in sev eral places his many friends and neighbours wish him well and hope he will be on the mend very soon still another on the sick list this week is mr kim rogers the local scout master mr rogers is doing well after a serious appendix operation up and at em kim you cant keep a good scout down seriously get well soon youll be missed the first euchre for this sea son was a real success and much credit is due the commit tee who planned and manned the whole project everyone had an enjoyable evening and the lucky first prize winners were mrs c grenshead and mr les ogden those at the other end of the scale were pearl mowdcr and morley davis it was good fun for all and we hope as many and perhaps more will turn out for the next one to be held in two weeks on friday nov 9th we have the very pleasant taik of wiieoming still another new family to the lake area mrs maccorrnick and son ev an have moved into the pollock home on the 9th line we havent had the pleasure of meeting mrs mac cormick yet but have met young evan and if his mother is as nice as he is we are very lucky to have her with us last week ballantrae school played host to the public speak ing winners from several other schools in the township there were eight contestants in all and the first place winner was frank harris grade 8 bloom- lngton school his topic alco holics was interesting and well done congratulations frank and good luck in the tests to come we have been asked by mrs hortnn and mrs grcnstcatl to clarify statements made in last weks tribune first of all they do not feel they were mis directed they have been thro ugh all the proper channels which finally brought them to the council meeting secondly the percentage with regards to the school petition is 25 and not 35 as published lastly the petition has not yet been presented and anyone still inter ested in signing may do so by contacting either mrs horton or mrs grenstead at 293j4 sunday was the occasion of the first church parade to be held by the ballantrae cub pack headed by mr jack wat- fcon they formed twos at wrights general store and marched from there to the bal lantrae united church fred watson son of mr and mrs ar chie watson and john wylie were the standard bearers and did a fine job too the boys were proud and so were the parents and so too we feel were the townsfolk who turned out for a look see mr watson has done a fine job and should be given a big well done for his ef forts even the weather did its ihare by being sunny and warm two others on hand to help things along were sam hendy better known to the boys as kaa and mr reg mowder chairman of the group commit tee plans for the annual christ mas carnival to be held at bal lantrae school by the home school are on the move mrs r maclennon has been ap pointed committee chairman and is quite enthusiastic about her job we hope all members and friends will cooperate with her and her committee 100 and make this years carnival bigger and better than ever a tentative date has been set for saturday dee 8th and thats not too far off now start look ing through your cupboards and drawers and see what you can send along for the sales counter when the call comes out arti cles needed will be about the same novelties knickknacks white elephants and almost any thing thats saleable voull be hearing from the committee soon so lets all be good scouts and be prepared more details will come your way as plans progress we must say a sad farewell ho mr and mrs f keeso of valley road they have left for at least a year and taken up residence in toronto we wish them much luck and are sorry to see them go but feel sure theyll be back for visits often ballantrae we are truly sorry to hear that floyd michell son of mr land mrs garnet mitchell has rheumatic fever and will have to stay in bed from 4 to 5 weeks lets all get busy and send him ja card for we know that lloyd richardson certainly appreciat- ed the cards books and games that we all sent to him mr kim rogers our scout master had a sudden attack of appendicitis and was rushed to the newmarket hospital the last word was the operation was successful and mr rogers will be home in a few days the scouts will continue as usual on tuesday nights a pleasant evening was spent at the euchre on friday night at the school with almost fifty people attending mrs l gren stead received 1st prize for the ladies and mrs r mowder the booby mr les ogden received the 1st prize for men and mr morley davis the booby the next euchre will be held nov 9 we are sorry to report that not all the cubs could attend the church parade on sunday but those who did made us feel mighty proud the boys met and marched from mrs wrights store led by their cub master mr jack watson the flag bear ers were fred watson and john wylie on their arrival at the ballantrae united church the flags were held in an arch posi tion and the cubs and cub mas- ter marched through into the church the wa wishes to thank all those wonderful people who came and helped to make their family night a huge success over seventy people attended and all in everyone had a pleasant time mrs b udsor and mrs a vaughn are on our sick list this week we do wish them a speedy recovery ronny watson had his tonsils removed last wednesday oct m and a little bird tells us he in coming along very well remember wed nov 7 that is the date of our wa meeting the home school associa tion have set the date for their christmas carnival for dec 8 mrs r mclennan has consent ed to be chairman of this com- mittce and it is our hope that everyone especially the parents will pitch in and help to make i this carnival an even bigger and better succes than the one we had last year remember the movie projector is our goal the principal feels that a projector will help the children a great deal so lets get together and donate what we can so that one day in the future your child may come home and say we had a very interesting science i lesson today on film you will be able to say to yourself i helped to provide the projector victoria square mrs w sandle couples club the regular monthly meeting of the couples club was held on tuesday evening of last w eek at the hose of mr ard mrs earl empringham mr tarry way of toronto showed three films sponsored by the carnation milk company the films were why baby grows bathing the ba- by ard feeding the baby these films were very interest ing and much enjoyed by all 1 games were played followed by refreshments euchre the sew- ing knitting parcel post fish pond miscellaneous afternoon tea was also served tiie wa would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to make it such a success wa and vms please keep the date
