The young people of the Methodist church purpose holding a series of cot- tage prayer meetings, the first of which will be held at Mr. Whitby's residence to-morrow eyening (Friday) under the leadership of Mr. B. W. Ennis. We regret to hear that Mrs. Burch, formerly of this village, is at present in poor health, which at her advanced age causes her friends considerable anxiety. She has been for some time residing with her daughter, Mrs. Grant, at Pais- ley. Ont. Shilton, of Flesherton, preached instructive educational ser- mons in the Methodist church here last Sunday, morning and evening. The annual harvest thanksgiving service of Christ church, Markdale, will be held on Sept. SOth. The church is being decorated for the occasion. We are glad to hear that both trips were successful from a business standpoint. He reports finding eyerything in good order on his return. Herbert Hall is a faithful and efficient manager in his employer's absence. Rev. Mb. Wilson, of Toronto, preach- ed morning and eyening in the Presby- terian church, and will occupy the same pulpit next Sunday. His discourse last Sabbath was very impressiye and in- structive and was appreciated by all who heard him. The rev. gentleman will lecture on Scotland in the church on Monday evening next. jENKiNs,editor of the Brussels Budget, is in trouble. He fell to writing libellous articles concerning one named Grant. An injunction was issued re- straining him, but Jenkins heeded not the injunction. He now languishes 80 days in jail for contempt of court, and has the costs to pay. Jupt like the Jenkins who once ran the Durham Chronicle. J. B. Spttbb, of the Dundalk Herald, visited Flesherton last week. He re- mained over night at the hotel, and arose from his dreamy couch about half an hour after the bus had left for the station. When last seen by the denizens of Flesherton he was hoofing it in a whirlwind of dust towaids the west. The posters are out for the Glenelg Fall Exhibition which wiU be held on the Agricultural grounds, Markdale, on Thursday and Friday, 27th and 28th inst. The C. P. ' New Unifobms. â€" Our band hoys, hav- ing got tired of discoursing strains of sweet music on the evening air attired in a variety of motley colored suits, have decided to purchase uniforms. The suits- will be of dark navy blue the fronts and cuffs of the coats adorned with gold trimmings and brass buttons epaulets trinuned with gold fringe the pants will be ornamented with a broad gold stripe so as to match the caps. The suits are to be made by B. S. Bae, of Markdale, at a cost of $182. The band bovs have been very liberal with their open air concerts on Saturday evenings, and now an opportunity will be afforded our citizens to "chip in" and help them in paying for their suits.
