the qualii whether they admit it or not For liyetx its summer job One he can do that he enjoy and also something that he hopes will lead to futltimc career My ambition in life is to announce game at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto for the Blue Jays Eyers said recently It work at it anything ispossiblc Sports has always been big part of the 20 yearold tentral Collegiate students life He played in the Barrie Miner Hockey AssoCiation for seven years plays for ltarrie Floor and Wall in the intermediate Division of the Barrie ty Fastball League and is also an avid golfer with hair dicap of eight Sports has always been my life Eyers said want to stay involved in sports in some camcity because if has always been major part of me The move from punk kid who hung around Queens Park to scorekeeping and announcing job came quickly for Eyers He started as bat boy seven years ago and then hit ed the diamond for year It just gradually grew into fulltime announcing job Eyers said This is my fifth year as an announcer and really love it like half in general like the guys on the various teams and also enjoy working with statistics Eyers was espeCIally helpful to exsports editor Randy McDonald and myself He provided us with game reports after each game and once month compiled complete list of statistics from the Barrie and District Senior Softball League and the Intermediate Division The sports department certainly appreciated his efforts over the long season He matte our lives lot easier and less complicated Eyers like anyone else enjoys pat on the back when he does good job it tends to make the job worthwhile When people come up to me after game and con gratulate me for doing good job it makes me feel good By ers said the people appreciate what you are trying to do it makes it all worthwhile Money isnt the important thing in ajob like this Many speakers tend to get nervous in front of large groups of people but not Eyers The more people at the park the better helikcs it like to work for large crowd he said also like ey Citing close games fhaf Ontario Amateur Softball Associa tion game here between Owen Sound and Slessor that went 19 innings was one of the best games have ever worked Eyers has seen his share of good ballplayers perform at Queens Park over the past five years but one player sticks out in his mind Corby Adams shortstop for Beatrice Foods in the Barrie and District Senior Softball League is Eyers choice for the best ballplaycr in Barrie He is just super hitter and won the batting title with average of 391 Eyers said Eyers expects to be back at Queens Park announcing next season but after that it off to college and sports announc ing course Bill tfiiirlow one of Eyers closes friends is credited with getting him st arted as an announcer It takes while to get on to the proper way to score hits and errors Eyers said its harder than lot of people think its also responSIbility and something you can take pride in he added HERE AND THERE Doug
