the examlner Wednesday Sept 1977 15 Its world of wonder for everyon Brothers CNE exhibitL reflects Disneys charm TORONITO The World of Adventure at this year Canadian National Exhibition is very popular place thanks to several area resrdents Wayne and Allen Beckley brothers have deSigned and animated 10 sets depicting claSSIc adventure stories for the Carlseberg Festival Building Wayne the 39yearold owner of Creative DCSlgll Association of Midhurst says he has always enjoyed the work of Walt Disney and believed there was market for similar work here All we had to do was to find someone who would believe in us and Carlseberg did There is really no one else in Canada who does this kind of work he said SPECIAL EFFECTS The moving parts of each set are operated by compressed air and computer programme ing This gives better variety of moves They dont all do exactly the same thing each time they move Special effects such as the sound of guns firing lightning flashes and rolls of thunder combined with wind effects and steamboat whistles make the tour well worthwhile At times the exhibit is so crowded Carlseberg officials are forced to limit the number of people allowed in at one time Alladin rubs his magic lattern as the leiil mysteriously appears and disappears in the background Gold and precious stones flow from treasure chest depicting Alladiiis wish Athos Porthos and Aramis the Three Muskateers dressed in colorful satin period c0stunies of red purple and green bravely defend their lives with swords flashing llis arm can do anything yours can Beckley explained Its almost bionic it can lift 200 pounds In one scene Gulliver awakes struggles to get up and discovers he is tied to the ground with little people quietly observing him Half of the costuming was done by my niece Donn Wolanzski of Burlington but she was too busy to finish them when her twins arrived Mrs Janet Bureau Springdale Drive in Barrie did the last 20 costumes Beckley says last years set which was the Wizard of was completely dismantled and not used again There is possibility that this one may be used at least once more but that is not finaliz ed On another set crickets chirp and steam boats whistle in the night Tom Sawyer and his cohorts sit around bonfire warming their hands At the same time across the walkthrough Davy Crocket and Indian friend try to get three bear cubs out of tree The sets are all open with no glass in hibiting the visitors view think people enjoy an open concept more than looking through glass Beckley says There has been bit of vandalism but nothing which couldnt be fixed quickly The lorontolmrn animator stays with the exhibit 12 hours day each of the 21 days its open total of 21 days That way if anything goes wrong lm here to fix it and think that gives Carlscberg more confidence in my work as well When the name Disney is mentioned the thought of money lots of it somehow goes along with it Beckley says many people who see the sets comment that it is very much like Disneys work Is he making lots of inoney You really have to prove yourself in this business lm making living right now lm not getting rich but hopefully that will come The work lm doing is similar to Disneys but use compressed air while his sets use hydrolic oil use the air because everything here must be fireproof think this is as good as Disneys the only difference is in the budget The Carlsebcrg Festival Building is the one ly one at the INK supported by one effort Wayne Beckley Midhuriit iii the animator responsible for the World of arlslxrg Feastlval Building at this
