bigger and better things are planned for next year We have 18 members in the club now Paul Mallory presi dent of the club said Friday By next year we hope to have about so members 15 of each sex The club is private and not just anyone will be accepted ac cording to Mallory The fee for joinin is $60 and that oes towar paying for some the equipment Each member is repsonsible for ying for the gasusedduring eday The club is sort of learning ience with some of the tar skiers teaching those that arent quite proficient yet Mallory ex lained Some of the people joined the club at the start of the season couldnt ski at all and now they are getting very good at it The members of the club work on kite fl ing trick ski ing barefoot alom and they also try their luck at building pyramids This year we are using boats that belong to members of the club Mallory said We have applied for Wintario grant and if we get the money it will go towards buying boat We are also trying to get Johnston Motors to sponsor us for next year First allstar game success Team Two survived fifth inning rally by Team One to emerge as victors of the first allstar game of the Barrie and District Ladies Softball League at Shear Park Wednesday It was really great just super game summed league president Judy Pezzetta after the game She said the idea of the game was talked about at the beginn ing of the year and all the organization was done within the last week The fan support was ter rific she said There was lots of good ball and everyone seemed to have good time An estimated 150 spectators attended the Sox hold off late Cavemen bid COLLINGWOOD Staff Barrie Red Sox came alive for three runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Collingwood Cavemen to Wednesday in South Simcoe Baseball League game Red Sox had to claw their way through seven innings for their first win in four meetings with the Cavemen Barrie has four games remaining in their 28game schedule including one tonight in Orillia against the Majors and game in Alliston Friday Red Sox finish their four game series with Collingwood with record of one win two losses and tie Barrie was handcuffed early in the game by the cracks and crevices of bumpy Coll ingwood infield which opened the doors to the to lead by Barrie the Cavemen heading into the sixth inning In the end it was errors by Collingwood and key defen sive play by Barrie which turn ed the game around After Duncan Campbell and Glen Laycock reached base in the sixth on back to back base hits Bryan Neely slapped single which Collingwoods centrefielder Harold Homer bobbled Tournament with game Sunday at 10 am against Shelburne There are eight teams entered in the twoday tournament with the Red Sox the lone entry of the South Simcoe Baseball League Other clubs competing include Shelburne Ivy Rangers New Lowell Lisle Everett and Clarksburg of the North Duf ferin Baseball League and midget team from Stayner The champions of the tournament which is sponsored by Molsons will receive $125 with the runnerups taking home $75 and the consolation champions $50 There will be trophies for the best batter and pitcher of the tournament which costs the public $1 day
